is apple just as bad with support for laptops as it is with ipods?

since i'm going to be teaching in italy for a year, i thought it would be helpful to have a touchscreen/tablet pc because i most likely will not have technology (projector/smartboard) in my classroom.

what do you guys think of the HP tablets? they look pretty sweet and they dont cost that much.

I recently purchased a Gateway laptop. It has an Intel Centrino Duo processor, 2Gs of ram, and a 160G hard drive. It was $900 at Best Buy. In my opinion, the perfect specs. It runs super fast and is perfect for what I use it for, surfing the web, movies, music, photos, etc. It's also not too expensive or high-tech where I wouldn't utilize all the features.

Dont want to rain on your parade, but gateways are one of the worst manufacturers. Yeah, it might have good specs, but the they put in those PC's are not worth the money. The company bankrupted before...I hope you have a decent warranty, cause when parts start breaking, it wont stop. Im not trying to offend you or anything, im just speaking frmo the experience with the company.

ok. so far i've pretty much narrowed it down to:

toshiba
hp
lenovo

maaaaaaaybe mac. as with most pc users, i dunno what my problem is with the switchover. just being a whiner i guess. :)

Samsung, NO!
Siemens, NO!
HP/Compaq, NO!

Stick to reputable computer companies, just because these companies are successful in other fields of the electronics industry, doesnt mean they will bring you quality in the computer field. Too many companies have tried and failed.

Companies to consider:
Toshiba, Sony, IBM, Acer
