What is an anthem?

Just some random thoughts:
What do you people think an anthem is?
What makes a song an anthem?
Can there be more than one anthem at a time?
What is/are anthem(s) of trance?
I think there can be only one anthem at any given time. For example, System F-Out of the Blue was an anthem like back in the summer of 2000. It defined what we think trance is. But once another song comes along and becomes an anthem, like Gouryella-Tenshi, System F-Out of the Blue falls from the anthem ranks and becomes a classic. What do you think? |

trance anthems are like classics in a way. they dont ever die down they are always recognized as one of the best trance songs ever made.
wether old or new they still remain an anthem, hence the name for this genre of trance__anthematic trance__:) |

I guess that in a literal sense, an anthem is any piece of music that causes a mass and joint explosion of emotions. Anthems can also be very place specific, and can be of almost any genre.
A hard house club could just as soon have some anthems as a trance house club could.
I like to look at anthems as pieces of music that either take a long time to die, or never die at all.
Tracks taht get an awesome crowd reaction almost everytime (if not everytime) they are played.
Some of the biggest anthems I can think of would be:
Energy 52 - Cafe del Mar
3 Drives on Vynil - Greece 2000
Paul van Dyk - For an Angel

Blank & Jones - Cream (PvD Rework)
Delerium - Silence
But ppl will argue what is and isn't an anthem .. just enjoy the music I say :) |

For me, an anthem is a trance song that represents the best of the genre at any given time.
Anthems have no given shelflife, it can be years or weeks before they get classified as a classic.
System F - Out of the Blue, and PvD - For an Angel are some anthems that lasted years before they weren't played anymore. |

| Anthem is something similar to classic that stay with a particular style for ages. But also I think an anthem especially in trance seem is a comercial trance track that appears many times on the different trance compellations and sets like Dream Dance, Trance Nation and so on. Anyway I do enjoy trance anthem cause each song is like a peace of my life puzzle. |

Anthems are the reason god created pills ;)
Seriously, anthems are just those trance songs with huge breakdowns and just take you to another level that can't be reached by any other song... that's my take. |
