i'm in the market for an ableton controller so i can start messing with this program. can the same ones used for mixing be used for producing? my budget is probably under 300. i have an m-audio audiophile 2496 sound board if that matters. also will the ableton 6 installer for xp work on vista?

Vista compatability is affirmative.

www.abletonlivedj.com has reviews of just about everything..more then ive ever had hands-on time with..

Map whatever controls you want to whatever controller setup you want.

Need a bunch of knobs? BCR2000
Faders? BCF2000

Maudio/Evolution has the

UC33
Triggerfinger
xsession
xsession pro

some of the best controllers on teh market, hands down.
custom designed.. if I was rich I'd own all 3.

nice thrax... those behringer units look overkill for a novice like me. the faderfox lc2/lv2 look nice as does the xsession pro. faderfox uses midi plugs whereas the xsession is usb. does either have a benefit over the other?

does that xp-vista compatibility apply for most programs? such as photoshop cs?

X-session + same soundcard as you

Its a bitch to monitor with that though, I have to run it through the mixer.

so it looks like i'm still gonna need a mixer for monitoring :o

this is what i use, although its getting a little dusty from neglect.

i'd like to upgrade but not until i get more into it.

i use an axiom 25. good for production but if you want something better i'd get a keyboard with more knobs and sliders, the m-audio trigger finger is better for mixing. also, an audio interface would be useful for dj style mixing. i use the m-audio conectiv, it can be used standalone with ableton and can also be used in conjunction with the torq software (which can also be used as an ableton rewire slave) and as a digital vinyl software. soooo many possibilities, haven't had time to explore them all, plus im extremely lazy. hahahah :stongue:

also the m-audio conectiv interface can also be used for monitoring. plus its super affordable, and it connects to an analog dj mixer for dj style mixing.

Or just a new sound interface. One of those external USB or firewire M-Audio ones should do fine.
