Recording My Mixing
View this Thread in Original format
Dj Nacht
I just bought myself 2 cdj 800's and an Ecler Mixer not to long ago!! :eyespop:

I was wondering how do I record what I mix so I can listen to it again and eventually share them with others? I couldnt find anything on google for this!
Alex
An ok soundcard, and either Ableton Live or Sony Soundforge, both of which you can tief if your pockets are still light from all the gear, hehe.

Which Elcer do you have? Doesn't matter that much I guess, just have to hook it up to the soundcard, hook the soundcard up to one of the above mentioned programs and play away! (More specific instructions can be found on google, once you get a soundcard and the right programs, hehe)

if you are on the run i suggest the in line i river...but if you are at home listen to alex and use your pc.

I don't feel like bringing my computer downstairs, if I use a laptop with a built in soundcard will it suck?

good monitors>sound card if you are just starting out.
chances are you don't want to rush into recording and sharing quite yet;)

what ecler do you have and what hardware are you working with in terms of laptop.(pc or mac??)
Alex
A soundcard is totally irrelevant to Monitors :p

Totally different, the soundcard is the link between hardware and software, that's all, and if he wants a decent recording, a $200+ M-Audio soundcard is probably what's in order, especially if he wants to record stuff monthly or whatever, since it makes it so easy.

if he want to learn how to mix..monitors are good to hear man... He just started and will not learn anything if he is using ty multi media speakers. Honestly he just started mixing and wont need to record anything for awhile. Learning to mix and hearing things as they really are>recording... before paper man. (i say this because ive talked to nach and he wants things a bit fast;))

he isn't learning to mix on abbleton man...you don't think he should make sure he can hear what he is doing before worrying about exposing us to it? You know one bad mix means no more downloads ever as well as i do.
Alex
I wasn't saying what he should buy first, I had no idea what his experience/situation was/is.

I was just saying, if he wants to record something, whether it be now or in a few months (and it will be in a few months, AT LEAST) he'll need a half decent soundcard that doesn't make prog tracks sound like minimal click tracks because of how badly it skips.

Also, if you're still investing in good equipment Nacht, I'd suggest buying a pair of Event Alp monitors, you can order them from certain Canadian stores, reasonably priced, and ING good!

sorry alex...you are right about the question at hand. I just dont have msn to tell him to calm down and get the basics down first. Nach, love you man...but after less than a month trust me we don't want to hear it yet.

i use this...but you can get yourself monitors at a much better price.
hes only been at it a few weeks...maybe it was just me but at that stage i was at the point were i wanted to smash everything..and yelling at my cd's for being s:p

I just want to record so I can hear my mixing!! I dont want anyone to hear the train wrecks yet :wtf: :D
Ive got M Audio BX5a monitors are these good enough?
My problem is that they are hooked up to my computer for producing purposes. My CDj's are connected to an old skool amplifier and some home speakers but I find the sound to be so .

i used to mix on these little box speakers... my mixing sucked

i upgraded to jvc 8 inches with the old ty amp like youre using... my mixing got better...

i upgraded to a 300 watt peavey powered soundsystem and my mixing went thru the roof

id argue that a good soundsystem is as important as a good mixer :D
all-nite-freak
yup, nach as much as it sucks you chose an expensive hobby to persue...an old ty amp won't cut it nor will the home speakers..not if you want to be hear all the ranges properly. I really suggest you read the DJ Booth section of TA...there are a lot of threads made by people starting out and a lot of good information. Take the time to read, you would be suprised at how a few words sometimes can clear up a problem you didn't even know you had. I've never used those monitors...they aren't crazy or anything, but should be much better than what you are working with. I think its time for you to move your pc or be ready to spend some more money. If you wanted the cheap and easy way it was ableton...and even then you need to spend a bit to take advantage of it.

and count beats in your sleep like they were sheep until you are a robot.

and i will say to anyone, don't make the mistake i did and buy ableton...the cracked version is much more stable than the original.I was pissed..live and learn.
