| This happens a lot on IRC as well...and I hate people who do it. I act nice to everyone regardless of how noobish they are. |

| I would be pretty bitter, too, if all I ever typed on the forum was "RTFM". |

I gotta agree with Booster on this one. Look at the threads over a given period and the same things get asked again and again, mostly by people who just can't be bothered to search, and in a lot of these cases, by noobs. I've got nothing against noobs - we all start somewhere but someone with no experience can learn a great deal from TA just by searching, reading current posts, going through the tutorials without having to post anything.
I know I'm guilty of having a crack now and then at dumb questions but me, If another person comes on this forum asking why their system doesn't work now that they have installed vista I think I'll shove a copy of XP...........in the post (see I am helpful):D
I think some traffic has slowed on this forum, because of the decreasing quality of the posts and discussions - not that people are being too moody. I think a lot of seasoned users (many of whom have weighed in on this thread) are not getting as much out of this forum as they could or used to.
You will find a mix of people here most of which are very knowledgeable and helpful, and in the vast majority of cases, if a post is left unanswered it probably just means it's been answered a thousand time before.
I disagree that that D&B (at least in the most part for the UK and europe) is more popular than trance. Trance has suffered here in the UK over the last few years but more and more it's recently been becoming less of a dirty word (especially in the EDM press) as the cheesemongers find themselves unable to peddle their dross. |

Bingo.
Myself, I am very much a "smart-ass" sometimes, but that doesn't mean I'm never helpful. I think most of the "smart-asses" on here are like that.
Not that there aren't ever unneeded comments, but... just get over it and don't fuel the fire, IMO. |

I agree with DJ Rann pretty much 100%. While I recognize that the search button doesn't always work like a charm, there are some things that are very easy to find. Especially if you just look in that neat little post up at the top of the page. It's amazing what I've learned from the main tutorial post.
Furthermore, I think most of the users are about as helpful as they can be. Sometimes they may go about it with a hint of grumpiness, but it's really hard to not get frustrated when you read the hundredth post asking how to remove vocals from a mix, or what settings to use on a compressor. There are only so many things you can help people with. |

Definitely... especially on the Internets.
Some of the most sarcastic people on here are also the most helpful, IMO. |

Very true. The same can be said for those who flame or have a go at dumb questions - there is usually a solution provided along with the rant.
I feel jealous though. I've only got one internet.:D |

You're missing out... there are so many Internets that are ripe for the flaming. :) |

I'm still fairly new here and I've even noticed there seems to be a bit of redundancy with some of the questions that get asked in this forum.
I can see how it can get aggravating after a while.
I lurk here fairly often mostly to read the information and advice, if I have a question I make it a point to search thoroughly to see if the answers I'm seeking have not already been posted, not because some people here get annoyed by frequently asked question but because I don't want to look like an idiot.
I'm a member at a couple of musically related message forums and the atmosphere is pretty much the same everywhere, people get fed up with lazy people not willing to put forth the effort to find what they need.
I think that's just human nature. |

| intelligent people, who actually have a passion for this, try to figure out stuff on their own first...and seek help when they need it. most people post here for a quick fix without wanting to put any effort in. |

as said above, prolly 80% of the people that post stupid questions in here want to know how to do a certain thing in belief that it will instantly after 5 minutes of producing give them a record deal.
When you put down 8 years into something and try to share as much as possible of your experiences AND try to do it in a way so that people in the future also can take part of that knowledge by just reading what you've already written before you get pretty tired when people create new threads over and over again about the same things.
The information is here if you just search, it's the people that doesn't even bother to search that get a flame from me...simply because I'm all through evil...and have a death list to fill! ;) |
