This thread is sad Rachel!

I've only had one kitty pass away when I was 17 - he was only 7 and had a blood clot in his leg. I got him when I was 8.

:(

The cat I have now is 9, but I think she'll live forever just out of spite. (She's not the most social creature. I suspect she may be carefully plotting the death of at least 3 of my friends.)

why do some people refer to their pets as if they are children? and refer to them selves as the "mommy" of they pet??

I am a better parent to my pets (i.e. I feed, nurture, encourage and enrich their lives) than a lot of people are to their children. I also prefer the company of my pets than 99.9% of the human beings I know. It is my prerogative to call myself whatever I like. I can call YOU whatever I like too. Thank goodness for free speech. Ass.

"I am sad to announce the death of our dear kitty Morillo.

He died tragically last Monday July 16 after being struck by a car on greenwood avenue. A lovely lady witnessed the event and was able to tell one of our neighbors on St. Hubert.

It is very sad to see him go but he will forever be remembered as one of the best cats anyone could ask for. And the best brother that Markus could have had.

We will miss his cute cuddly ways, boogery nose that always needed tending to, his praying to the cat picture on our wall every night, him snuggling with his toys, and most of all his princely way of sitting whenever guests were around; paws always crossed.

He was just over a year old but will be forever loved.
We hope kitty heaven is just as fun as St. Hubert was, if not better.
Kisses and Shnugs
Danielle, Shannon and Carney
xoxo"

Heartbreaking, truly heartbreaking - much love to St. Hubert.

I have by chance become a dog lover though. Unfortunately the one I chose to raise suffers from Megaesophocus. He's doing well but its still troublesome.

I feel for anyone who has lost a pet.

It sounds cold, but I believe that such experiences are invaluable in preparing a person with how to cope for the inevitable loss of a loved one.

Raise an animal from its childhood (before 7 weeks) and tell me you don't feel like its parent.

Would ask the same question of adoptive parents?!?

I understand your point (different species) but we are all animals.

I'm sure you've heard of animals adopting/raising the offspring of another species.

Also, interestingly enough it goes both ways...It's not just the pet owner's behaviour personifying the animal, the pet behaves as if the owner IS its mommy or daddy. Studying behaviour/body language then mimicing it.

Its the best answer I have for you. Hope it answers your question.

Couldn't agree more. How do you cope with your dog's condition? Do you have to tube feed him? Give him a big kiss from me :D

Sorry hun but I knew about Caroline's dog and Danielle's cat so I thought it would be a good thread to keep all the sadness in one place.

Rachel, Sorry to hear about your little hamster. Pets are so important for us. My cat almost died twice and had to have two surgeries, those were like the worst days of my life. So, when you lose your little friends, it's for sure very hard and something is missing.

I didn't mean to come off as an ass, as i stated. I was just curious. No need to be rude about it.

Awww, Rachy- RIP Simon.
And condolences to Danielle too.
I still cant stop crying when I think of Stimpy, who passed in April. Seeing pics of him & Eggy at Graham parent's house kept me in tears on many days while I was there, just thinking about them.
