I just had a upsetting experience! I found a pigeon on the road near my work a truck was almost going to hit it so I ran in front a picked it up. I kept it in my car and brought it home so I could find the owner from the tag# as it was a racing pigeon and I found one before and returned it! I could tell the pigeon was sick or hurt cause it kept flopping over on its side as if it was disoriented.
I brought it home and gave it some grains and water it seemed ok. I found the owner on the Canadian Pigeon Racing Internet site and agreed to return it the next day! I went out that night and when I came home aroung 2am ti check the pigeon I have put in a cat carrier on the balcony and again it seemed ok!
Well I got woken up early saturday am by my girlfriend who said the pigeon wasnt moving?
I picked it up and I think it gave its last breath in my hands as i held it.
I was so upset by this. I had too phone the owner and tell him it died. I felt so guilty but the owner assured me I did more than most people and it wasn't my fault. It still hurts. I buried it in the ravine near my building as well!
Lesson Learned: Made me appreciate my pets so much more!!!
Hope you get another friend soon?

Sorry for your loss Rachel, I've been down that road too.

Loss number 2 happened whilst I was in England.
My lovely dwarf hamster, Garth, passed away whilst we were visiting London. My wonderful friend, Jenn, made him a casket and put a note inside then buried him under a tree for me. I knew he wouldn't make it to when we got back but it was still upsetting. He was a true doll.
His brother died last October, I am so surprised Garth lasted this long.
Here they both are. RIP my little sunshine.

I am a better parent to my pets (i.e. I feed, nurture, encourage and enrich their lives) than a lot of people are to their children. I also prefer the company of my pets than 99.9% of the human beings I know. It is my prerogative to call myself whatever I like. I can call YOU whatever I like too. Thank goodness for free speech. Ass.
I'll verify this, her menagerie live like royalty. Sorry to hear about Simon, Rach - even if the little was never nice to me, not once. Simon became something of my rodent nemesis, but I respect him for that. I know how much you loved him and I'm sorry he's passed.

And to complete my 3, my baby hamster Jemima died on Tuesday evening.
I am devastated even more so because she was my baby and I had no idea she was sick.
A very tough time for me at the moment.
