I disagree....we do travel to Europe quite a bit. I think its the impressions that some Americans leave behind that gives us a bad rep. |

Alaska cruise sucked so bad...too many damn old fogies, plus the sea was so rough I even got sea sick.

Agreed, Typical US citizens don't get a lot of international travel, however, the stat abouth passports is a bit misleading. I say that because there are very few countries in the world that have such a hugh land mass with such diversity in terrain. One could argue that there is no need to leave the US to see all types of different landscapes.
I think we all know that european citizens practically have to have a passport, but the need is much less in the US. This is not jsutification for the lack of foreign travel, but just a little inight. And even if you could see all the different landscapes, you wouldnt get exposure to other cultures, which is one of the primary reasons why i travel. |

If an american has a passport that means (s)he traveled outside of NA (with the exception of some central american countries). considering that 25% equals around 75,000,000 people i would say that we're pretty good at traveling. That number doesn't take into consideration americans who traveled to mexico and the carribean pre-2007 (actually you don't need a passport for land travel, so the number will remain low for a while).
A higher percentage of europeans have passports because they need them to travel to every other european country. If americans needed passports to travel from NY to NJ everyone would have one also. If you take european travel out of the equation i bet europeans don't travel as much as you think. Remember that a german taking vacation in spain is like us going to florida (not really that spectacular).
Im willling to bet that americans do more traveling abroad than europeans (if you take out euros traveling to other euro countries). |

not necessarily. it's only 2-4 hours more to fly to asia from the US than from Western Europe. |
