Prague appreciation thread (pg. 3)

I appreciate Prague because I live here. I can't imagine living somewhere else in Czech Republic, I just need to be a part of a big city. Can't really judge the sights, as they have always been a part of my daily life but I do like the atmosphere of the alleys in the centre of the city. Especially on winter nights.

Freezing (due to really bad weather) but the place looks like it's out of a fairy tale. People are awesome (from all over Europe and Asia). Drinks are SUPERB.

Highly recommended. I'm sure it'd be mega packed during the summer.

+1 for everything you said. Obviously it was freezing in January, but it was pretty alright in August. I wore t-shirts 85% of the time.
Fairy tale is definitely the best way to describe the city, it's simply too wonderful.
People are really friendly and there are a lot of tourists. I've met people from UK, Ireland, Germany, Slovakia, Spain and Romania. :D
Drinks are extra cheap and extra good. Gin is half the price compared to prices in Croatia.

We were there from friday last week to thursday this week. I've been drunk every day except for one (had to pause). :D

Oh im so jealous. I've been dying to go to prague. I went to siena italy and then back to amsterdam this summer , but i should have gone to prague. I've heard many great things about this city. HOw were the women.

There are a lot of tourists, but from what I've seen in the streets, there are a lot of very good looking women.

prague is an amazingly beautiful captial, nice architecture, friendly people and lots of things to see, do and drink
stay away from the tourists nightspots and you will have a ball, always good to hang around with the locals and see how many shots of

you can down before hitting the floor....

Sljivovica is rakija, very popular drink on Balkan. If you want to drink something similar to rakija in Czech, go for Becherovka, their national drink. If I'm not mistaken, it's rakija made out of 18 different plants and tastes like cinnamon. :)

I've been there. I had a great time! I really enjoyed Terezin. It was great until we couldn't get a bus back b/c there weren't any more that day :nervous: . Thank god getting a taxi back was relatively cheap.

My friends ended up in taxi with insanely good and experienced driver. It was 4 o'clock in the morning and he was driving up to 210 kmph (131.25 mph). :nervous:

I had a chance to go to the Czech Rep, however skipped it because i don't like travelling alone.. I'd be there with my cousin and his girl, however they're busy with work, and I'd be staying in Brno which is a bit far away from Prague.

Prague does look like a nice place to travel to, though.

I wasn't born there, but my parents emmigrated from there. I was only able to visit back when the commies got kicked out some 18 years ago. It was still relatively cheap to travel to the decade after that, but I hear at least the beer stayed cheap.

U Fleku is still open to tourists and locals where beer has been made since the late 1300s.

A day trip to Pilsen is recommended. This is the birthplace of the Pilsener. Pilsener Urquell brewery is a must and visit the Pilsen brewery museum.

Since my grandmother died a few years ago, my family no longer owns any properties (though we received restitution on a lot stolen from the communists), but at least I have some family to stay with, and once honestly has a hostel in Prague.

I visited Terezin as well, as I wanted to visit a real concentration camp. I went a second time on my next visit with my gf. Everyone should visit one once in their lives.

Yeah, we've been there. And in Škoda factory too. Interesting places to visit for sure. :)

Good you didn't go. Brno is nothing compared to Prague (although people from there would strongly disagree with me though; there is quite a big rivalry between the two cities). Not much to see and a bit boring overall.

Gauss: Becherovka is one of the national drinks, yeah, but not the national drink; the first immediate answer you would get from people here would be beer or slivovice (especially eastern part of the country). Didn't know you have a similar drink made of plums in Croatia :)

Everyone told be it's Becherovka... And they've been selling it in each and every souvenir shop with a glass or two with it. :)
Rakija can be made out of a lot of ingrediets, like grass (trava -> travarica), honey (med -> medovaca), pear (kruska -> kruskovaca), apple (jabuka -> jabukovaca) and so on. :) Sljivovica is probably the most popular one.

I have been to Auschwitz and Dachau. Terezin was a bit different for me, maybe b/c it was more of a ghetto. Still it was interesting.

In my experience, a tasty Pilsener is my national drink. Becherovka, which I always have in my bar, is for the daring, and slivovice is something families ferment in the backyard porch in an old bathtub usiong leftover rotting prunes from trees. That's the best sh!t IMO, had it, and fkuked me on my a55.

We'd probably get to stay one weekend in Prague, but i figured out the rest of the time walking around Brno would be boring on my own.. I still can go in the winter, but it's probably ing freezing.

Altho Brno has a racing circuit, and with me being a total motor-racing dork, it adds up value to the city. :p Watching MotoGP there would be nice, the race is this weekend actually.
