| i loved the techno and house but i will agree about the crowd being confused when the buildups came and stupid people just yelling "pvd" for the hell of it. |

Whiskers: PVD often says that he is not a trance DJ; he's always played very diverse sets from what I have seen, and that's what I like about him.
I for one love the electrohouse/electrotrance/mantrance stuff; He also played Alter Ego, Rocker which is about the only ID I remember lol.
I had a great time and good peeps to hang out with, but the crowd made me feel a little on edge; maybe just because it was SO many people but I felt like I was surrounded by people who were really, really wasted. |

i may be the only negative person in here, but here goes:
Paul played too much techno and house, too many buildups some of which were delayed by two bars and confused the hell out of the crowd and then when the buildups came, everyone started jumping and the dust went up in the air, there were too many drunken meatheads who only cared to yell "yeaaah pee vee dee" from time to time (of course you can't do anything about that), the sound system was too loud with the highs (hurt my ears at times) and not loud enough with the mids, so combined with what he played, the music sounded like it was all the same, Paul was on the knobs too much - should lay off a bit from the low-pass filter
excellent lighting, nice of Paul to play "another way" (although a strange mashup), great attitude on Paul's part, nice video screens, i liked that he used a midi keyboard to play along with the tunes, glad i missed "time of our lives" if he even played it the second night, cool that he uses the same sony headphones that i do :p
maybe i'm picky, too old skool and did not realize what PVD was all about, but i was not satisfied, neither was my friend. we left early, just as it seemed Paul was getting into the "trance" part (played The Anthem, what a tune). overall, an amazing performance, but not worth the $60 and the 3hr drive. i did not expect him to play techno and it seemed like the set was pre-arranged in Ableton (is this the standard nowadays?)
one of the house tunes I recognized was Lange vs. Gareth Emery - Another You, Another Me (Terranova & Austin Leeds Remix), quality track, but i consider it to be more a filler than a set carrier. |
I totally respect your review and everybody is entitled to their own opinion but since when was PVD ever considered a "trance DJ?" Being that you're old school you should know by now that Paul pretty much plays it all. Yeah a lot of his famous productions are considered trance to most but his live performances have never been what you would call a "trance set." If he would have played all trance people would have bitched that his set was too "fluffy." Just my 2 cents. |

| The event sounded awesome from right outside the playfield. We were there along with a hundred other folks chillin' out there and having a blast. I think it's going to start a tradition - the PVD Tailgating Party! LOL! |

My review is going to be short and sweet
Friday was good, depending on the style of pvd you like you might have liked it better than I did. I like more energy and techyness from my paul sets. The rain was a killer. The security guy that came and made me delete all of my video from my digi camera was a mood killer for sure cause I got a lot of good rain video. The rain also really didnt do me well but it seemed to get the crowd going till the sound cut off for a min. Then the rain just seemed to not like the rain anymore. Live vocalist were ok but too many paul tracks in a row.
Fridays afterparty with Steve (thrillseekers) was actually better for me. Nice crisp sound with driving bass in a dark venue. Props to core for this event, havent been so shocked from a set in my life. More props for Melly mel guiding me there on the phone. Met a few TAs at love.
Saturdays paul set was much more amaizing to me. The crowd gave paul more energy to work with and he gave it right back in my opinion. The weather was perfect, just the right temp for a good time. Met two TAs, relik from florida and vlad from ohio I think. Anyhow, had an awesome time for his saturday set.
In regaurds to the laser, it was weak but the setup itself was nice. Obviously some technical problems or a laser thats got too much hours on it. |

LOL! I figured that reference might be lost to non-Americans. Wisconsin is the state where most of the country's cheese is produced. |

Wow seems a lot of people had the same opinion I did as far as Friday vs. Saturday - I thought Saturday was a bit better. Paul definitely rocked it both nights though, thoroughly enjoyed myself.
The situation with the bathrooms was absolutely absurd though. There is just no excuse at all for that. Having to wait 45 minutes on a bathroom line really took away from it, especially if you were drinking beer and had to go around 3 times during the show like I did. |

| Great show :o)Great job on the lighting!!!!!!!! Although I got a bit tired of the live acts back to back to back. Almost felt like a pop concert. I loved the old tracks in the beginning of the night... but felt the ending was rathr sudden. Again with outdoor shows, they end too early! |

I have seen PvD so many times since the early Twilo days. He is the one who got me into and loving electronic music so I knew there was a time when he was an electronic music genius. Long ago, though, were those days; days when he was playing tracks from 45RPM, Seven Ways, Out There and brilliant remixes. Unfortunately over the span of 7-8 yrs I have seen his creativity and innovative ability go southward. Nothing but drab vocal, ty, cheesy productions especially the last couple of years. Furthermore, I find it laughable for PvD to comment on the commercialness of other dj's (e.g Tiesto who, agreed, is also a cheesemeister) when he has turned his gigs to a freakin pop concert. I can't even imagine Sasha, Digweed, Danny Howells and other class dj's doing that or producing such crap.
I can't believe this is the same man who used to bring the house down for 6+ hours into the early morning every other month at TWILO. |
