lol, me too.
but these days I'm more inclined to participate and debate a topic when someone at least takes the time to present their position and perhaps a counter argument or proposal instead of just crying about being 'told' something by the gov't or some special interest group.
great...so the suggestion here is that banning plastic bags is stupid or that we shouldn't be told if we can use them or not.
my answer to that is "and..."?
I don't know what the solution is to plastic bag filled landfills...but I do know is that starting a thread on TA whining about the latest movement to ban something is doing pretty much jack to solve what some are clearly perceiving as a problem.
it might have been more helpful to note the controversy of whether or not plastic is even worse than alternatives from various perspectives (energy/cost to manufacture, distribute, disposal, etc)...but that would have required some research and takes far more energy than whining, I suppose. |

my goal is not to find an alternative. My goal is to be allowed to make my own choice on which product i wish to use.
I think the initial post made that quite clear.
Funny thought i just had... most of the people here who want plastic bag bans seem to be against the street racing bill. Clearly one is more dangerous than the other.
I dont support the street racing bill as it is written either by the way.
Just funny how some people think though.... talk about inconsistant. |

| lol, how the hell is it inconsistent? The two bills deal with completely different issues. Just because someone is against one of them, doesn't mean they are in favour of complete anarchy and are against any other bill. The whole reason for a democracy is that it allows us to pick and choose which laws we want, and not be lumped into "all yes" or "all no" sides. |

ah but isnt this exactly the premise that has been argued against me in this thread when i was called inconsitant?
And you cant pick and choose because once you set precedent, others can use the same precedent to argue successfully against things that you enjoy. This is why its important to protect EVERYONE's rights. Even for activities that you may not necissarily enjoy. |

LOL
Arguing on teh interweb is like special Olympics... Even if you win, you're still a retard...
Here's an opinion though that I've held for a long time... Why ban? Negative reinforcement is proven to be worse than positive reinforcement in terms of producing desired outcome.
So instead of banning eco-unfriendly, why not encourage eco-friendly bags? IE make eco-friendly bags cheaper to buy than eco-unfriendly, through government subsidy, or some such...
And this can be applied to pretty much anything that is a hot-topic.. Drunk driving, pollution from cars vs subway debate, etc etc etc. |

You are correct. Currently I'm sure the majority of the voting public is for 'banning' street racing, and 'saving the planet' etc. And that stuff I think TA's fine with. But I can only imagine the outrage if the 'majority' were to ban things that TA's hold dear to their hearts. Like....an EDM event ?!?
I'm not trying to fan the flames but hip-hop concerts get banned all the time, in many places in the world. Many hip-hop acts can't even get into Canada or the U.K. (Snoop, DMX etc.) because they have been associated with violence/crime (and have extensive criminal records....IDIOTS). What says that an EDM event can't be next ?!?
I still believe we need certain regulatory measures to protect the majority from the selfish/ignorant minority, but I acknowledge that it is a 'slippery slope' being navigated.
Things that make one say hmmmmm.....

*I don't know you who you are. And though I generally disagree I can't help but feel intrigued by your views on governement and its role in our society. Have you always felt the way you do or is your outlook the culmination of your personal experiences in the last few years. (Just thought i'd ask because your posts come across as passionate, and I like to know where people are coming from so I can better understand their opinions). |

Even corky deserves to feel like a winner sometimes.
You made excellent points. However negative reinforcement does work as long as the penalties are stiff enough. |

It's definately personal. Ive seen the lies, corruption and misrepresentation in the media and through politicians when it relates to their attack on my own profession. Also, it seems that everyone is ALWAYS AGAINST anything you try to do in this country. Whether its noise, pollution, or whatever other reason they have. They disguise their selfish motives with some feel good cause and try to shut everyone else down.
The attack on raves in 1999 opened my eyes. I thought to myself "if they are lying profusely when it comes to this, what else are they lying about?" And guess what, clubs are next! |
