i agree on that somehow but depressed is not the right word for me, i get sort of unbalanced, unfocused and in general a mess. music is therapy and it keeps me focused. |

Well I'd assume you make great music because no one understands you or because your gf just broke up with you.
But if your depressed cos you (think you) suck at making music... then your probably not going to try very hard and make crap. |

While I'm producing, I rarely get depressed, because I get really into it and just keep going regardless of time and surroundings.
However, if I'm feeling down, it can be downright impossible to start on something, and at those points, I try to do other things. |

I used to get depressed, a long time ago. Back then I was trying too hard to do something specific. I sat down with a mindset; "ok, I'm going to make a tech house tune", or "I'm going to make some breaks", and then I'd run out of ideas and it would bring me down. Then after a while I stopped caring about what would come out of it. The ideas kept flowing and I never got depressed again while making music.
The trick was to not pressure myself into finishing a product, but to focus on the process, with the mindset that what came out of it was irrelevant. |

lol...been there, done that :)
Anything creative...be it music, art, etc...always tie in to a certain emotional center. Being creative in any medium requires you to open up a bit, explore your own , and put yourself out there for the world to see.
It is no wonder most of the creative types in the world end up walking a fine line between bliss and depression. Also, no wonder that people ranging from Kurt Cobain (sp?) to Richard Jeni...very successful and creative people, cannot handle their depression.
In the end, my suggestion is that its all about balance. You cant let yourself sink too far into that hole. Focus on the good things and the rest will fall into place. Thats my deep thought for the evening. |

fill up your msn list with tons of other producers and you will never get lonely ;) if i didnt have that then "yes" i would def. understand being lonely....sometimes you need to get out for inspiration or try another creative method (i also paint sometimes) :)
