Just The Little Things

On this forum, day in and day out tempers errupt, arguments occur over the slightest things. I am actually quite curious to know the little nuances involved with edm that bother you. (only rules no noobs saying elitist, no elitist saying noobs...asot and all of that crap. Lets keep it clean i would like this to be a serious thread.) That being said i will start.
1. The Bedroom DJ name drop. I hit a tad of a production block this weekend, and to take a breather I decided to listen and review a few sets of many genres in the DJ promotion section. Low and behold i see over and over the one thing I cannot take. What is with people when they only add a few extra mesures in the beginning and the end of a track....doing absolutely nothing else and then doing..(dj blabla edit) Is this based on some insecurity? An edit actually is something that significantly alters the track from its original form. Simplifying mixing by adding takes 2 seconds and isnt one. Am I the only one who thinks its a little ludicrous? I understand people might want to feel important or I don't even know...It just perplexes me. I sometimes see these Dj's chart their own edits and put [CDR]...like wtf.
That felt good...feel free to add on my point, or bring one up of your own. I think this might be a very interesting thread if it is kept clean. |

weird, man.
i was JUST thinking about the VERY same topic last night.
i agree, an edit should have a significant noticeable difference from the original track's structure. |

| considering how much time goes into producing a track...its a bit of a slap to the face to have some nobody do nothing and make claims. The [CDR] is just the cherry on top..at least give the label credit if you are going to be self important no? Even Ricky Ryan does a little bit before putting his name on things.(blech) |

| I hate labels that advertise that they release only the best music but are so full of themselves that anything by 'popular' or 'famous' artist is gobbled up, and good production by relatively unknown producers is politely sent back with a 'not what we are looking for at this moment'. |

I actually made a thread about that a while back, regarding just what constitutes an 'edit,' 'remix,' etc. I got answers ranging from 'if you change it at all, it's an edit' to 'it has to be actually re-done.' I just gave up & figured I wouldn't say anything about any of them in TLs, regardless of what I did to it. [for the record, that one on mine is the way it is 'cuz it only actually has 3 measures from the original ;). I never use/listen to the original track].
Mislabeled tracks in TLs, Charts, etc. (bonus points for using the filename)
5-page bios for the headliner, opening djs, promoters, tech crews, bouncers, & bathroom attendants in event threads
"What do you think about [DJ]?" threads
Purple
people who think nobody should criticize any music, and go into abusive rages when someone does, in the name of 'being positive'...ok, I actually kind of enjoy those :stongue: |

So the "new community" full of "cool people" didn't work out, huh?
Ah, well.
And this should be in the DJ booth, along with all the other whining. |

No, more like I lost bookings due to incompetence and fear. |

| Edit: Nevermind, and Greg, if you were indeed insinuating that you're incompetent, you aren't. |
