Pre Love Fest TA meet up spot suggestion

I need your help guys.
I would like to organize an international pre Love Fest TA social on Friday afernoon (9/28) however this will be my first time visiting SF so I am having hard time picking a place :D
Can you please suggest a spot? Somewhere central, easily accessible, not too busy on regular Friday afternoon and most of all with a character?

Thanks!

there is a place that the TA's always meet up at right near the beginning of the parade. michelle, sweetcandygirl, will surely see this thread and give you the heads up. so keep an eye out for it. but for sure we will meet up. looking forward to seeing you and so many other TA's from all over :D

I would be up for a Friday afternoon meetup in addition to Saturday morning before the parade. There's a big mall at Market & Powell (right next to the cable car turnaround) that has a food court downstairs, or right outside this mall (downstairs right outside the BART/MUNI station, there's also a visitors center that has maps, MUNI transportation passes, etc.)

The visitors center might be a good option, since it would be less crowded and I could pass out the TA wristbands to anyone who's already in SF and wants them early. If you get lost, just ask someone (preferably some official in uniform) where the visitors center next to the BART/MUNI station is. A lot of TA's may not be getting into SF until Friday night or Sat morning, so the meetup before the parade is also a good idea.

A lounge that serves drinks near this area would be more casual, but unfortunately I don't know of any. www.tripadvisor.com or www.virtualtourist.com may have some good suggestions...

there's a forum for this. hint: the link is at the top of the west coast forum.

A dinner would be good too so long its early as some are heading to Chemical Brothers which starts way before PvD or LoveLee. If you're looking for a lounge, theres Anu and Playbar on 6th & Market and down the street from 1015 Folsom itself. I usually go there if I'm in the city early.

Ok, from now on it is officially a social and not meetup lol
Sorry for the confusion and please allow me to elaborate.
This thread is just brainstorming for the place where this will take place.
What I had in mind is to meet some of you SFTA’s and TA’s from other U.S. cities and other countries. We can have something to eat, few drinks and socialize a bit. Some of us are coming from pretty far (I am sure further than Canada) and would like to meet YOU the locals and see what your are like and learn a bit more about SF and vice versa.
I have had local TA meetups at the parties in Toronto and I know what that is like. There isn’t really any socializing and no one is to blame – because we are at an event for the TUNES!
Saturday morning meetup is cool for locals to meet and greet and maybe exchange party schedules. The rest of us will (that actually manage to get up for that time) just barely be able to exchange names with some local TA’s. I don’t consider myself shy but it would be pointless to pull everyone’s sleeve asking “Are you a TA?” as I will not recognize any faces.
This social can fit in everyone’s schedule. We can start as early as 4-5 pm so people who are going to see Chemical Brothers can drop by and be off for 8pm.
Thanks for the suggestions rizo :) Also I wanted to ask you do these 2 places serve food and are the prices reasonable?
What would be AWESOME is if we could have some locals spin some tunes at the social. Any volunteers? :D

Let me talk to a few friends this weekend to see what we can come up with. I do know of a place where the food isnt that expensive and has small setup. We had dinner there once w/ Aruna and Taj along with Thrillseekers tracks playing :D I'm sure theres other places too that I don't know of since I dont actually live in the city

Yes, this is a great idea. I arranged a TA meetup at the Love Parade in Berlin last year and I made friends from Germany and Australia that I still keep in touch with on a regular basis! Here are my suggestions for a successful meetup:

  • Pick a place that's convenient for most everyone (e.g. near subway stops, around city center) and post a link to mapquest with some good directions if possible.
  • Set the date & time early, as a lot of people are traveling and may not have internet access
  • Someplace kind of quiet actually allows for better conversation (in Berlin, we met at a huge ice cream shop, but there's nothing like it in America!)
  • Exchange cell numbers and text each other if possible. The TA's that I met all had cellphones and we sent texts to each other right before meeting up (I know, it's more of a European thing, but we're catching on with the iPhone and all... :D )

Anyway, these are just some suggestions. It worked for me in Berlin, and I couldn't believe that I was the one organizing a meetup for the German and other international TA's there!

Gilbert to the rescue once again! He's pretty much responsible for most of the meet ups and dinners here in the SF. :D

This is a great idea. The restaurant he's suggesting is really good and is not far from The Chemical Brothers and Paul van Dyk venues.

I have help from you guys :D

ok so i think i have a good venue for a meet up on friday. its down the street from 1015 (pvd), the concourse (chemical bros), shine (i missed dirtybird this past saturday :whip: ) anu/playbar (cheap drinks). mighty (love lee) is not that far either, less than 5 minute drive but its also walkable IMO. place already has TT and mixer. friend is willing to bring his equipment if needed but rather not have him do so as he's playing at 1015 later that night too. food is good and not too pricey (turkey burger w/ sweet potato fries was like $10?). outdoor patio in the back (this is where we want to have it!). i'll call sometime this week to see if its even possible though.
