i don't like ice. only time i use ice is to make smoothies and i blend it in so it's slushy...
but ice is excellent for restaurants/bars that like to fill the cup with ice and leave the rest of space to the good stuff.

cool trick to do:
put a glass of water in the freezer for enough time for it to get supercooled (i.e., it's liquid @ 32F/0C). then touch it with a small chip of ice, or drop an ice cube in it. the entire amount of liquid will turn into an ice/slushy mix.
that's meteorology at work baby, yeah!

i know if the glass is hot and you put cold water, it will break. i imagine vice-versa as well.
