Maybe it does. However, have you ever compared murder rates of European nations to those of the United States?

I would do that before throwing around insults like that. :)

That's because people bring them in from other states.

The whole country needs to stop bleating 'THEE RAIGHT TO BEAR ARMS IS PART OF THEISE COUNTRYS HISTORY" and get rid of guns, nationwide.

That just doesn't happen here because guns are hard to obtain.

How the hell does a kid get an AK47???

im not disputing that the murder rates of other nations are higher or lower. im just saying that considering the social climate, the prevalence of guns in our country, and the way our society treats guns that you cant eliminate guns in small pockets and expect that to curb crime. you either remove them 100% or not at all.

More than anything, it's probably because DC has lots of urban poverty. But the lack of legal gun ownership isn't helping anybody. Now for some data:

Gun ownership stats: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-sr.../ownership.html

Violent crime stats: http://www.statehealthfacts.org/cgi...+Crime+Offenses

Murder stats: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0004912.html

Here we have gun ownership (descending order) vs. violent crime rates and homicide rates:

PHP:

Nat'l avg. violent crime rate: 469.2 / 100,000 inhabitants

Avg. violent crime rate for top 25 gun-owning states: 361.684

Avg. violent crime rate for bottom 25 gun-owning states: 441.536

[If anybody is wondering, the national rate is thrown off by the inclusion of D.C. on the original page.]

Avg. murder rate for top 25 gun-owning states (2004): 4.404 / 100,000

Avg. murder rate for bottom 25 gun-owning states (2004): 4.764 / 100,000

So gun ownership in the U.S. has a pretty strong negative correlation with violent crime in general, and a small negative correlation with homicide.
