No, they are not. If all the involved people loved what they talk about, there would be no discussion. Hence, it does not make any sense.
Go back to your castles in the sky. |

There have been lazy DJs throughout every era of EDM. The people who let Beatport charts dictate their taste today are the same ones who went to the brick and mortar record store yesterday to just sort quickly through the new releases and pick up the obvious choices. This is not a new phenomenon, it's just a lot more obvious now that we can have a whole crate's worth of tunes delivered directly into our hard drives.
The fact of the matter is this: a good DJ will stand out from the pack and shine brighter than the others, as he always has. Digital distribution has made it things a lot easier for lousy and exceptional DJs alike. I simply don't understand this mantra that Beatport will be the death of our music.
I also don't understand this obsession with expecting a mix full of brand new tunes. ESPECIALLY in a commercial mix CD. If you're going to spend money on a CD, it's kind of a given that you're going to be listening to it for a long time. If the tunes are good enough to withstand the test of time in your CD library, then they should be good enough to have stood the test of time from their individual release dates. Likewise, if a piece of music is worth buying, it should be good enough to play 6 months, a year, two years, five years, ten or more down the line. Some tracks definately get played to death, but still...
I'm looking forward to hearing this. |
Exceptional post. |

The problem is I don't see too many of those types of tracks on this compilation. |

I'm pretty sure he was intending to be sarcastic, in which case, yes he did fail miserably on that account. |
