Agreed, and the iPhone is a LOT thicker than the iPod touch - like it would feel awkward to have in your pocket.

As far as the internet interface goes, it's great - typing is easy, and it's plenty easy to zoom in and what-not. First handheld device I've seen that seems to do interwebs well.

Is there a monthly fee for the Touch to be able to connect to the internet?

I got mine a week ago. It's nice but I think the iPhone would have been better if it was for any carrier instead of just AT&T.

UW Apple Store student discount.

And the internet is just standard 802.11b or whatever the hell it's called - connects to any wireless network.

I see, I thought it might connect through a carrier so that you could download tunes from anywhere will phone reception. Guess that's what the iPhone is for!

How is the battery life on this thing? I have a nano and it's pretty pathetic... like 7-8 hours tops.

Haven't really tested the battery, but I do know that if it ever gets to the point where it lasts less than 5 hours Apple will replace it (the entire iPod) for me for free.

And you can download songs (via WiFi) from other machines or the iTunes store, and with WiFi pretty much everywhere these days, I don't really see the need for cellular internets.

When you say "other machines" do you mean other iPod Touch devices?

Can anyone recommend a mobile power pack that you can recharge the battery with on the go? I found this one for the plane: http://www.inflightpower.com/products.asp don't know if it's legit.
