| This is the perfect chance for local companies to go out and buy equipment/software to upgrade their facilities and enhance their productivity (to bring prices down and become more attractive). |

yeah. We have a strong domestic demand for our Canadian products still, and I was reading that Canadians are still shopping here and that retailers (for example) haven't had to adjust their prices yet. So if many of us started to shopping in the US (which I plan to do for that one week, heh heh) then it's gonna hurt our economy too.
Tourism will def take a bit of a beating, as will the movie industry (it already has in Montreal, TO.. Van is subsidized by the provicial gov so no issue there - we talked about that in another thread).
The rising dollar does help our hockey franchises though :) |

Spins got it, already last week one of canadas biggest timber companies took its product off the market to reprice wood, cause the US isnt buying as much. Canada's economy is based on exporting resources, high dollar is bad for us. And like Spin says it all trickles down, less sales abroad=lower profits=lower taxes taking in by the gov=less social service etc etc
Of course we benefit short term by being able to buy cheap stuff from the US, but thats pretty limited for consumers considering how gay the border is. |

| The US still owes us some $5 billion USD for our lumber that they taxed us on. |

hey Malek, do you know if these djs get paid in American dollars or Canadian (or whatever)? Because the rising dollar could affect that if, for instance, DJ X wants to be paid 20K USD .. 'cause now it wouldn't cost Canadian promoters as much to pay that out.
Just a thought..maybe Balenblanc can chime in here. |

| it depends on the artist. some require to be paid in euros, others usd. NONE of them get paid in canadian dollars unless they live in canada. |
