Nice pics. I especially like the night shots of the city.

Here is my night...

A pint of beer + Panda Head = Fun night!

nice pics!

I was mildly disappointed with the whole thing...just too crowded and so many people were being twats (like touching paintings, being pushy, etc).

I hit the OCAD/AGO area first, around 11pm, and it was a ing zoo...nothing was terribly interesting either. I then walked up to Yorkville and it was just as crowded, but the people at least had some tact, lol. Nice to see the galleries all open...some cool live music in the Guild Shop, and the audio exhibit along Cumberland (I think) east of Bay or Yonge, I forget which) was pretty cool too. Street blocked off with a bunch of speakers.

I really do like seeing the city come together like this though. Toronto rarely pulls off something on this scale and it's great to see it 'work'.

Next year...I'll wait until 2 or 3am when the crowds presumably have thinned!

I found the crowd to be wonderful. So many smiles and a wonderful energy about most of them.

It was great seeing so many different types of people coming together, and I think that was the real strength of this even, not the art (sorry). We need more events where people can just come out and be people, regardless of their labels.

yeah Mike and I were mildly disappointed too, although the walk was definitely enjoyable

btw that exhibit on Cumberland was supposed to be a Brazilian carnival/celebration :)

the balloons exhibit was the biggest disappointment, IMO, we imagined it would be a much bigger structure with lights involved, not a bunch of balloons twisted together with a huge line up next to it

the best exhibit was either the Cloud or the tent on UofT campus with a story writing

oh, and Ghost Station (Lower Bay) could have been a little bit more creepy too

the Church St event wasn't as expected. didn't pull off it's 'japanese village coming out through the fog"' theme well. but as we wandered by the Church St Bar around 9 a full on break off was going down. that was cool. as for some of the other exhibits, the Siloutte writers were cool. at 10 we settled down in Satlers with more than a dozen martinis, and listened to Serafin and the Littlest Jazz orchestra ( www.serafin.com) with Guest Lynne Tremble ( from Cats) and Fabrizio Filippo ( Queer as Folk, Billable Hours). the main hilight of the night was the Free Pizza from Pizza Pizza. Not quite sure what to make of the lady in a wedding dress rolling around the street with a goat with a skinned head tho.

I love this pic!

Thanks for the great reviews, everyone.

wow talk about a chaotic night... i actually think I saw more last year in a smaller span of time than I did this year despite getting started earlier and ending a lot later.

The crowds were absolutely ridiculous. I don't know how many more people came out this year compared to last but it seemed like everyone and their dog was out last nite. I mean c'mon, a 1hr 30min wait on Cumberland to get into Lower Bay station at 12am?? Get there at 8pm and it's only 10 minutes. It'll be interesting to see the final number count. I think a lot of people who didn't go last year caught wind of its success and decided to check it out this time around.

It almost felt that the event had gotten a little too big at times. Many of the venues were really far apart, i.e. Trinity Bellwoods - Distillery District. You almost had to just choose 1 or 2 zones and stick to it. Those who chose to drive were in for a nightmare with all the road closures. Even taking the bus/streetcar was a bit of a nightmare with all the traffic and packed conditions.

I think in all I felt somewhat underwhelmed much like I did last year. Many of the installations I found to be on a very small scale or simply not living up to its description in the program guide. Personally I would have preferred fewer but higher quality exhibits rather than a huge number of smaller less impressive ones. But I suppose by Toronto's standards, you might consider this all still somewhat of a success given the lack of public art we seem to have today. It was suprising seeing huge crowds of people gather around some tiny piece of metal sitting in a lawn someplace.

The ride home was insane but I'll leave that for another day .. way too annoyed to talk about it right now. Oh yeah and I was also stung by a bee while getting home.. not cool.

m2j might have a better review of that since he was there for a long time.
