Relation with your parents (pg. 2)

until recently i never got on with my dad. he was too much of a jerk to me & my brother, was never around for us or did 'dad' things. Now my folks are split though in the last 2 years he's realised just what he's missed and is trying harder so we give him the benefit of the doubt, he just lacks social skills.
My mum, I generally get on well with now, but never did until I was about 19. I always disappointed her and she again never showed any interest in me growing up but she's finally realised a bit about what/who I am and seems to finally accept it moreso. |

| well i just got kicked out of my house 2 weeks ago.....My parents are Salvadorean and they didnt think it was proper for a young lady to party every weekend...They are old fashoined ..I havnt talked to them ever since I miss my Pugs :( |

we get along fine (they are divorced) but I can't say I talk with them much. Never anything else but trivial or superficial things. Just the way it has always been...  |

My dad is dead... we get along fantastically!
My mom and I have a mediocre relationship. It used to be REALLY bad when I lived at home, but since I've moved out, it is much better. Even though it's better, it's nothing to brag about.
We talk maybe once or twice a month. I see her maybe every couple of months. Whenever we talk, it's very surface conversation, and a lot of the times, we will just stop mid-conversation because we know if we continue, it will be an argument.
She is a fanatical christian, and very self-righteous, which is probably the biggest reason we don't see eye to eye. |

My relationship is kind of odd, when compared to the average relationship; we've never, ever fought. My mom and I are close and I tell her pretty much everything, and go to her for most advice regarding major decisions and I always use her as the person I vent to. My dad and I get along great, he's taught me a ton of great "life lessons" and is my hero and role model.
Hell, my first gig was on their anniversary last year. They had huge dinner plans, they'd rented a hotel downtown, the works. They canceled all of it and had dinner with my brother and I at home just to come and support me. Coolest thing ever.

how old were you when they got divorced?
my parents are in a pretty nasty divorce right now. and i really only speak w/ my ma. for awhile, i didn't talk with my dad...then he called me out of the blue...then we were talking for awhile again...then it turned into emails. and now , i haven't heard anything from him since May. but honestly, i don't feel any different about it. |
