Not your division but sony are idiots for bring in out Blu-ray and owning movie studios at the same time. I am mad cuz all my favorite Milla flicks are on Blue ray(too expensive) and I have HD Dvd(same as blu-ray only not as expensive).

blu-ray > hddvd.
but who knows which will become the industry standard in the end.
Sony DRM is teh gay though, so they better not implement on blu-ray discs or hddvd will win the fight for next gen dvd standard.

For anyone who thinks HD-DVD has ANY shot over Blu-Ray, think again.
See, Blu-Ray has something going for it that HD-DVD does not. It's called The PlayStation 3....which oddly enough is cheaper than any other blue ray player (it was at one time, maybe not anymore) and out of the players (out months back) it has the best quality picture.
The Xbox 360 has the HD-DVD addon, but it alone is $180and it's a pretty lame seperate attachment and will get little no market penetration.
A PS3 w/ included Blue-Ray is cheaper than the Xbox 360 + HD-DVD attachment.
If you care about games, I just got back from the Tokyo Game Show and the quality of graphic's I am starting to see being pushed on the PS3 is already surpassing the Xbox 360's. Doesn't necessarily mean better games, but other than like the Halo franchise and Mass Effect, most blockbuster games are multi-platform so that argument is largely null and void. People thought it'd take 2-3 years because developers have to get comfy with it and it's harder to developer on, but looks not to be the case.

Minidisc - total hit in japan.
Memorystick - still in use, proprietary format, not the best, but not the worst.

Hey let's not forget all the games PS3 owners have been waiting for! Ya know, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk... :haha:
Sony better come out with some good games quick, or once Blue Ray players get cheaper there will be no reason to buy one.
