Yeh, I saw the end of it with my dad (he really digs biased documentaries. He's like one of those strong Loose Change supporters) and I thought it was very interesting indeed. I love the part where they showed how Fanta was really a Nazi drink.

I'd probably agree with it from a personal level yes, Marck Achbar makes some good films and it appeals to my very marginal 'lefty' leanings, but presenting it to kids in school, who aren't quite capable of viewing objectively is kind of ramming it down their throat. Mostly that's a problem with the rote learning system of education, partly due to age of a deliberately targeted audience.

+ Not to mention public education's proclivity towards letting films and television do all the 'teaching' for it.

It isn't harmful, or at least I don't personally think it is harmful, to show children a video that has the ability to stimulate the mind with visualizations a teacher would not otherwise be able to supply through a regular lecture.

I was watching a documentary yesterday called

"The Corporation"

You can take a look at the site here:

http://www.thecorporation.com/

And you can watch the documentary on YouTube here:

http://ie.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=FA50FBC214A6CE87

It's very interesting.

One thing that has caught my interest, was this:

Having acquired rights of immortal persons, what kind of person is the corporation? By
law, the corporation can only consider the interests of their shareholders. It is legally
bound to put its bottom line before everything else, even the public good.

Does anyone know about this law? I have been googling it and trying to find specific sources talking about this law, and any elaboration on it, but haven't found much.

corporate law varies by jurisdiction, case law, and statutes. in the US, each state has it's own statutes or regulations describing the incorporation process, obligations, rights, and case law in which judge(s) interpreting the statutes or regulations. i'd imagine it's the same in canada.

But it's not quite the same as presenting kids with a David Attenborough documentary about animals and plants, which they will have been exposed too as a factual, unbiased representation of the natural world.
Write their little essays and do their homework.

Then, in the same context you're going to present this film to them, (don't forget Achbar has also made films to them in the past about Chomsky) and are the teachers going to present this to the kids on the same level as a David Attenborough doco?
Yes
It will be presented as fact.

Short version.
Education should always be bipartisan if you want intelligent, free thinking individuals, otherwise you'll end up with generation which is either extreme left or extreme right in their leanings, neither of which is a good thing if it is done as a rote learning practice.

We clear on that?

How so, I still haven't heard a good explanation to what happened to building 7 'till this day. It's like that old New Radicals album, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too , or I have.

that's only because you haven't attempted to find that explanation. i dont wanna turn this into another one of THOSE threads, but just take it from me-

WTC7 had severe structural damage after the collapse of 1 & 2 (was missing approx. 1/3 of its superstructure) and had a fire 20 stories high that remained largely unfought for over 5 hours.

that is why it fell.

:wtf: :wtf:
Theresa
Blah blah blah.

This is not about the WTC.

Let's not hijack this thread please kthx.

Anyway, any comments about THIS documentary?
