Ok what is happening out there? if any of you are Torrent downloaders I have the worst news to report today in case no one knows, if you go to their site this is what appears now:
"We received a letter from a lawyer represeting the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and We need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this. If you reside in Canada, that is the reason you are being redirected to this message. Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience."
normally I am diplomatic in my responses, but this is total BS.
Thoughts? |

| especially since the servers are in Canada, makes it easier for them to get nailed. I bet the next step is they completely shut it down cause then the RIAA will start assisting. Might be highly unlikely but you know what these expired tycoons are like. |

That's why you use a private Torrent tracker.
Simple as that.
PS.
Can someone help me get a "scene torrent" invite? I can help you out on several other sites if you need.
Thanks. |

I think I registered on that site awhile ago, lemme see if I have any invites, oh if you could pass me some info on the private trackers that'd be great too, you can PM me if you choose. Thanks |

You used to have to be a member to download, but they opened up new torrents to the public a few weeks ago, which was probably their downfall.
I know they are blocking traffic to their site, but I', not sure if they are also blocking CDN traffic to their trackers. Best bet would be to find their torrents listed on another site, and try it out.
I will miss them, but alas, this is torrenting and we should be able to roll with the punches. |

kk, i'll PM you later about stuff.
But essentially since it's a private tracker organisations and law enforcements can't really do anything since its hosted on a private server.
Not to mention that Private trackers have everything before its released.
let's just say I had Halo 3 four days before it was released in stores. (PS. The game kinda sucks). |

That's not true at all. The reason private sites are usually less likely to be taken down is because:
1) They have fewer people accessing the site, so the mass appeal effect does not take place. The RIAA/CRIA want to shut down the sites with the most traffic.
2) It's much easier to control who has access to your site, and who has access to your trackers. If the site admins find out a specific user is from an organization, they can block the IP and user from accessing the site again.
3) It does not matter if your users are public or private, if you violate the terms of your agreement with your ISP, you can loose your hosting privilages. The reason most torrent sites stay up is because the ISP's don't care until a lobby group like the RIAA puts pressure on them. Until then, they are happy hosting a company that will pay them ass loads for traffic. |

If they put the message up by your Canadian IP address, then simply use a public proxy from another country, and your problem is solved. |
