I thought it was a great show. Hybrid didn't really wow me, but I enjoyed some of it. Oakenfold actually really surprised me and was amazing. I only wished he could have played longer.
My only other complaint was with the scheduling. Who's idea was it to have Kenneth Thomas come on after Oakenfold? Does anyone have an explanation? He wasn't terrible, but you don't bring out the opener after the headliner.
It's good to see someone remembered some of the tracks. I knew a bunch of the songs but couldn't pinpoint the names. Well, I have to say if Oakie comes back to town I will be there. Looking forward to hearing what everyone else thought of this show. Oh, did a lot of you guys really leave when Oakenfold came on or not? |

^yeah... i am sure it had something to do with scheduling... hybrid was okay, but since chris was opening he didn't blow the socks off anyone. with oakey playing in the middle like that (agian, not sure why) i can only assume that kt had to continue on the trancier side (i didnt get to see kt spin), and not have him play the usual proggy/leading up stuff.
i thought oakey was good. he's always been about track selection and not mixing (although i'm NOT saying his mixing sucked). personally i like to hear classics and even new remixes of classics so it was a good tracklist by him. it's pretty amazing to see how the crowd reacts and how they are so star-struck by him. that's what happens when the way you get into trance is by downloading mislabeled mp3s and think oakenfold is responsible for 90% of the music in the scene. :)
again, not sure why oakey went on 2nd... did he leave after kt started to spin? maybe he just felt like going on 2nd? who knows? i have faith that kt did a job well done regardless.... |

| I imagine he caught wind of nobody wanting to stay too late, so the headliners went on earlier. |

it's possible that someone from Liquified might have said something.
not to mention I have seen KT post here in the SE forum several times.
So actually, it is quite possible. |

Hybrid played a nice opener. Only tracks I really remember hearing were:
Hybrid - Finished Symphony (Deadmau5 remix)
D ramirez & Mark Knight - Columbian Soul (Gabriel & Dresden
remix)
Then Oakey comes on and you know it was him... Shady mixing through out his set. One time I heard the incoming track beat off by a a good 30+ miliseconds. He even played Columbian Soul AGAIN... The same track that hybrid played... I was like wtf?? Does he not listen to the previous dudes set? Also we were packed in there like sardines. I tried to stay out of people's ways but one dude moved by me and shoved my forward when I was getting out of his way I was so angry. Anyway here were some of the songs he played:
Avb - Rush Hour
Sander Van Doorn - Riff
Armin - Who is Watching (Tonedepth Remix)
Mark Norman - Blikken Machine
D ramirez & Mark Knight - Columbian Soul (Gabriel & Dresden
remix) AGAIN....
Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Oakey's 2008 Mix)
Mekka - Diamondback (Ben Gold remix) (thx keithos)
Robert Miles - Children
Grace - Not Over Yet (ing horrible version of this)
Some point after this KT comes on and you can tell the mixing improved ten fold. He started with a track around 140 BPM and got everyone going like crazy. People also started leaving and gave people who actually wanted to dance more room. He then mixed into this flawlessly from whatever song he started with...
Markus Schulz - Fly To Colors (Genix Remix) OMFG I love this song
Here are the rest of the songs I remember form KT:
Three Drives - Greece 2000
Cassandra Fox - Touch Me (Jono Grant & Mike Koglin mix)
Filo & Peri - Anthem (I despise this one)
Until KT played anthem the energy in his set was amazing it reminded me of Christopher Lawrence or j00f set. I wish it wasn't so packed in there and they would open up the outside area so people can move around more easily and have places to go when it gets too hot. It was impossible to dance because everyone was so close together. Anyway it was good times. |

anthem?!? Thank god I left early before hearing that...
(BTW I left shortly after the Children remix)
In a nutshell: Oakie played some good tracks (and some REALLY bad ones), mixing was horrible. KT had some good stuff going on. I wasn't really sure when Hybrid was on because of the line-up being shuffled around and not being able to see the booth that well from where I was at. Overall the DJs were pretty good, but I do feel a bit disappointed that the DJ that got me into EDM in the first place (along with DJ Sammy:D ) put on a pretty poor performance...
I hate Opera, but instead of going into a rant here, I am sending a PM to Liquified. In short: I don't plan on attending any more events at Opera, no matter who comes to play :( |
