i was in the same boat as you were last month. after a lot of researching (googling), i decided to purchase a ps3. i managed to find a guy on craigslist that lives the next town over selling a 60gb ps3 w/ 4 games and extra wireless controller for $450. i sped to the bank, then his house and insta-paid him. i'd rather buy a used ps3 with the emotion chip than the newer ones that aren't included with it.
all my friends think im s for not getting a ps3 since they all have 360, but i'm happy with it. i believe halo is one of the most overrated gaming franchises, but i absolutely love gears of war. and i'll admit, there aren't that many (good) games out right now for ps3, and i already got bored of warhawk, but i've been using ps3's other features.. mainly the bluray player and streaming movies from my computer to the ps3 (flame protection: and yes, i know you can stream media with 360 as well). i needed a wireless adapter for my next console, and if i bought an xbox 360, i'd most likely be paying more than a ps3 if i were to also buy the wireless adapter and hd-dvd addon for 360.

Im going to get the 360. I really wanted to get PS3 but they are just lacking in titles. The only thing that even makes me want one is GT5 but that will get delayed as usual and by the time it does come out(2010) the PS3 will run $300. The 360 seems to share all the other titles Im interested in. Im glad I waited on the 360 due to all the errors going on with them. My friend sent his back 6 times already. Im in no rush. By the time I get it they will have the cheaper "greatest hits" out or buy them used. I dont need to be the first to have a new game.

PS3 not only lacks in titles, but most of the ppl I speak with are bitching and moaning about horrible game play on may of the games. Also, many of the exclusive developers are bitching about lack of revenues and are looking on the other side of the fense to try and sustain profitability. The word on the street is that Sony may be losing its exclusivity to many of the titles (one of the titles rumoured to be in consideration of joining the "dark side" (or is it the light side?) - is 'Resistance').
PGR4 just came out yesterday - SIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCKKKKKK. Besides, Halo 3? Hellooooo? Need I say more?
Besides, recent research showed that a substantial buyer base for Sony PS3 consisted of ppl who bought it for Blueray functionality without any serious intention of using it as a gaming console.
Dont' even get me started on HORRIBLE UI and typical sony-like retarded menu and configuration system, number of bugs, yada yada... and lack of games... well, you catch my drift.
Oh... and no rumble??? HAHAHAHA LMAO! Loved the excuse for not having a rumble in sixaxis - 'umm it would be a huge disservice to customer due to costs involved with integrating input and feedback mechanisms into same controller' huh? what? Friggin Wii controller manages to do all that and more in much smaller room. eeeeeediots. friggin eeeeeeeediots.
Gawd, I hate sony. the most bone-headed and stubborn company out there. You figure after Betamax, MiniDisk, as well as other fiascos they'd learn. HA! yEAH, riiiiiiiiiiight.

p.s. Crackdown and Bioshock are 2 titles that are worth the jump ALONE. Throw in sweet little titles I mentioned above and you have a no-brainer question.

dont forget:
the ps3's operating system uses 96 MB of memory while the 360 uses 25MB.
sure the ps3s 1 CPU might have more peak performance, the 360 is a lot more efficient with what it's got. (minus the solder melting)
