Political Messages Through Art and Music

Although I'm not the fan of Rock Music that I used to be when I was younger I do still enjoy it when rock musicians convey positive political messages (or messages that illuminate social or political ills) through their music.

I just got finished watching this video clip (which someone adapted to a Megadeth song entitled "Washington Is Next") and have to say that it really caught me off guard as I wasn't expecting such a strong political message from that group (what rock have I been hiding under, right?)

Anyway, I already know that the band Tool's lyrics are heavily imbued with political (and spiritual - or in this next video's case, eschatological) messages.

Off the top of my head I guess I could also list U2, Paul van Dyk, Moby and Henry Rollins so my question still remains. How many other artists, bands or musical groups do you know of that include political messages in their art? I'm quite curious to see how many we can come up with here.

most rock/heavy bands would have a political message or two, certainly any of the ones ive ever listened to.

i wouldn't be lumping tool in so quickly though; their stuff is particularly esoteric. for instance, aenema could just as easily be about maynard's distaste for the LA populace (and how they need a change), rather than some deeper eschatological message.

This song to me is still relevant... only perhaps the lyric should be changed to "war... it's just a lie away"

From Beck's most recent album, Modern Guilt.

"Chemtrails"

And here's a pretty good rap about the NWO, Martial Law, and FEMA:

I believe commercial hip hop is a front for materialism. Indoctrinating the youth to care only about material things and hedonistic pleasure.
