I have a 2002 passat ..well 6 month ago 2 of my cats had to be replaced.
Good thing they are under a long warranty.Would of cost me 3000 bucks.
Even a pin size hole in there will set of the engine light and make the car sound way louder. |

WOW. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that it could also be a spark related problem. What's the mileage on your car? You may need a new coil pack, wires, and/or plugs. Regardless, if your car is running lean or rich, the function of your turbo may be affected, since it is being spun by the exhaust gases. I know that secondary air pumps may also cause problems, but I'm not sure if 1.8 motors have it (my 2.0 does). The easiest solution would be to go to the autozone and ask them to use the OBD II scan tool (as others have mentioned). If you have the "check engine" light, the tool will definitely show some codes. They will tell you exactly what the problem is.
And to the guy that mentioned the converter failing - that's probably not it. The compressor can't possibly be affected by a converter, and he did state that it whines abnormally. |

yeah thats it. and yeah i know. sucks cause their concepts seem to be some of the best when it comes to practicality with regards to implementation. they have awesome concepts imho. |

| No doubt. I kind of understand though. Most of the better ones will fetch way more than the public would pay for a "VW". Its a shame . |
