They play CD's because vinyl is no longer an option as a primary playback format?
Seriously, these guys get productions over the internet straight from producers, and play them out right away. They do their own edits on their laptop while flying around, and yes, play them right away.
The alternative back in the day was to get custom acetates made, but those are very expensive and fragile (limited plays).
You have to realize that if you produce a track, it'll take 6 months to a year before it gets distributed on vinyl.
Plus, many clubs these days have really crappy un-maintained turntables, while they most certainly have a pair of new-ish CDJ-1000's.
And yes, playing CD's is SO much more predictable. Even using a laptop is a bit risky for many people, and if you can just jump on after the previous DJ without hooking anything up... that's one less thing to worry about. |

Mystery acting like a dick in like every thread.
Anyways, sets aren't always preplanned, that's usually only for big events and gigs (such as Armin Only). ASOT is done using software. The DJ has an idea of what he's going to play, though. |

vinyl is to cd's as desktops are to laptops. more-or-less a preference thing. nothing to snuff at...
plus cd's/computer based djing is where we're all heading (like it or not).
djing is evolving at such an alarming rate. vinyl, efx, cdj, daw, midi, dvj, lemurs, and it just keeps going and going. i've only been djing for like 2 yrs and have seen soo much advancement. hard to keep up w/. i'm still using the cdj1000mk3 and djm800 combo. i'd love to have something like pvd, but i just dont have the time or money right now... but that's the next step (for me). |

What the hell did I do now? I correct a mistake and I'm a dick, meanwhile other people insult him directly and nobody cares. What gives?
