When meeting new people...

When ever I meet someone new I usually just shake there hand and say "hi". They do the same thing except they say "hi, nice to meet you". When we depart I usually just say "bye" or "see you later" ect. While they say they say the same thing, except they will also say "It was nice meeting you". Whats the deal? I have no interest in saying "nice to meet you, nice meeting you" My girl friend brought this up to me last night and it turned into an issue

Am I a ing rude ?
Do I have bad manners?
Does anyone else not feel like saying "nice to meet you" or "It was nice meeting you"?

Yes

(As if anyone didn't see that coming)

I believe in honesty above false politeness. Then again us finns rarely talk like that anyway, it's just "hi" and "bye" with us. When someone says something like "nice meeting you" around here he's basically saying "I'm a pretentious wanker".

well...

i say "hi, it's nice to meet you" when it's

a) older people
b) family/friends of people dear to me
c) interviews

if you're someone off the street, at a club/non formal party, i say "hi, how are you/ hello"

but i'm not going to sit there and tell someone it was nice to meet them when i don't like them.
