I've just started Uni so i'm meeting lots of new people. And yeah, when we part ways and if I genuinely mean it I say "Nice to meet you, see you soon hopefully".
But yeah there is no point in being false.

When we depart I usually just say "bye" or "see you later" ect. While they say they say the same thing, except they will also say "It was nice meeting you". Whats the deal? I have no interest in saying "nice to meet you, nice meeting you" My girl friend brought this up to me last night and it turned into an issue
Am I a ing rude ?
Do I have bad manners?
Does anyone else not feel like saying "nice to meet you" or "It was nice meeting you"?
Oh the things that turn into issues sometimes...
After playing it over a few times in my head I'd say that "nice to meet you/it was nice meeting you/nice to meet you too" is pretty standard with people you meet for the first time, though not necessary. I think I say it most of the time when meeting people in most situations. I think a lot of language use is about lubricating the wheels of social intercourse. I stroke you a bit, now you stroke me. "Nice to meet you" is the same as "Hi. How are you today?". Half the time when you ask the question "how are you?" you could really care less about how the person actually is, but these colloquialisms aren't really about how you truly feel. It just helps the whole process. You aren't inherantly rude for not saying "nice to meet you", but you'll definitely be taken as being a bit more coarse by some. "Take care/take it easy/see you around" would probably be received a bit more warmly than a laconic "bye" when first meeting someone, but whatever. I don't think it's that serious...
It might just be a Mars Venus thing though. In my studies on communication in men vs women, a main point was that women are a bit more oriented towards sharing feelings, and men are more geard towards reporting information. On that note, for guys, "it was nice meeting you" is a fairly unimportant bit of information. I don't think I'd really think twice if someone didn't bother to say it to me, but for some women it might be the difference between rubbing them the wrong way or the right way, which is why I'd guess that you probably said "it was nice meeting you" to your girlfriend the day you met her lol :p .
In any case, you're not an , but social gymnastics are somewhat important to take part in, even if they are a bit superficial.

I think its in India, where its customary for male friends to hold hands as they walk around in public and to have your arm around them as well.

I've seen that around here, but usually only on funerals and in cases when you haven's seen somebody in a long time.
