can't you use seprate speakers on laptops??? if no then i will not be purchasing one. |
Laptops have at least mic and line out (the magic green contact) so you should be able to connect speakers to it. |

For laptops, probably Toshiba from that list (they only make laptops and tablets). For desktops....I would say HP, but Dell and HPs are very close. HP's might be a little better quality wise, while Dell's might be a little less money. I just got a Dell PC cause I got $500 off of it (a combo of a student discount and a labor day promotion). If I didn't get that discount, I probably would have gone with Alienware or ABS but would have had to wait for the prices to come down (which for the same system was $3,800 back in late August, but are now selling for around the same price I paid). |

lol, the way you said it makes it sound like thats something brand new hehe..
i remember one of my first computers, before onboard-crap came as standard, i had this soundblaster soundcard.. that thing wasnt just big, it was about the size of the tri-state area.. |
Well I am talking about laptops. Creative just released one for laptops. I believe it's put into the PC card slot...I think that's what I meant not PCI. |

Yes most external speakers you buy should be way better than the tiny speakers found on most laptops. |

| Laptop. It gives you almost all the functionality of a desktop + mobility. Mobility is important. You may need it in the future. |

before i started college i just had a powerful desktop that i built myself so it can run my flight simulator. But as soon as i started uni, i bought myself a hp dv1000 laptop for like 900 bucks which was pretty good price 2 years ago.
but yea, you should just get your self a powerful laptop, like one of those dell xps laptops.

laptops are typically more expensive, and unable to be upgraded. I had a desktop, but I hardly game anymore. I use a laptop now for times like this, writing a post on TA and watching star wars on cinemax because cinemax refuses to change their movie lineup even occasionally (damn you time warner!!!)
desktops are nice because they are cheaper and easily upgradable. They do take up alot of room. Room that I no longer have, I can't dedicate an entire desk to a computer anymore.
If you are looking for a decently powered laptop, check out the dell vostro. It's designed for small businesses, but the specs are on par with their other model laptops, and MUCH cheaper. check the specs for yourself. |

desktop.
It's big and big = better.
and yes, they are portable, i see people in the library all the time with theirs.
Put a nice 8800GTX in there, you'll be seeing online textbooks with 512x Anti-Aliasing. |
