My observations and such on Electro House (No this isn't another define genre thread)

First of all most Electro house that i've heard isn't my cup of tea.Don't get me wrong.if all other EDM genres were some how destroyed i'd be listening to tons of Electro house. It's just not my favorite sub genre. But there is the exception to the rule and such.
But what really gets me about this surge in Electro popularity is how lots of things that a few years ago would have been considered Tech house or prog house are suddenly being labeled as Electro house.Because i hear a track and i'm like no way that's Electro then all of a sudden bang it's Electro. Then it trys to seep itself into everything. Electro trance and such. Also i've heard a few ocassions where things that back in the day no way would have ever been considered Electro get's labeled "Electro".

Ok end of my rant.

:D

Yeah, there seems to be a whole generation of idiots that believe anything with abrasive sounds is called "electro", just like the infinite crowd that calls everything that is slightly electronic "techno".

who cares, genre defining is a big waste of anyones time... use the word progressive to someone in their 40's and they'll start quoting off Jethro Tall and Pink Floyd... you'll start quoting Sasha & Digweed. This week it's electro, next week its 'booty shaking house'... people are just trying to figure out what to call music they like so others understand... that's it.

With this genre and these big prog like beats matched with those dirty nasty synths (keyword nasty, they sound bad).... it sounds like a possibly good combination but so many of these tracks just end up sounding like a cacophony, and then are presented in the most commercial context.

Does anybody like this music or are they all just pretending to? I seriously hear tracks and think hmm, could I spin this record? I end up thinking no, everyone would ing leave the dancefloor.

Examples:

Damon Jee & Oliver Giacomotto - Walking on the Moog EP (The whole ing thing)
Treat Brothers - Tears (Laidback Luke Remix)
Stephan Panev - I Am
James Harcourt - Anaconda

:wtf:

The most common response I hear from apologists of this sound is "It gets a dancefloor moving!"

Er, yeah. It's ing DANCE music. It's accomplishing the same ing thing QUALITY tunes do too. Why play the mediocre?

I can't really add anything to that.

I agree with you but i don't care cause electro is crap and what they label as electro is also crap (most of the time). There should be a crap subgenre called crap so no one get messed up.

They already have one. It's called 'scouse'.

Stupid example. The word "progressive" on its own is not used to refer to any particular genre of music. There is no music genre called simply "progressive" outside of any specified context.
