Very easy writing down correct letters for "o" and "a" since they're the same letter ;). "E" and "i" is virtually the same as well.
Also, pronunciation has nothing to do with spelling. |

Wait, don't you mean the other way around? That the sound "a" can be represented by both letters ("o" and "a")?
It's actually hard to write an unknown word in Russian, because in unstressed syllables you never know when to use "o", "a", "e", "ya" and "i" (reason why there are so many misspelled words in that list). At least that's a problem I often face. |

the apostrophe represents a letter that isnt translatable. the soft letter (i think. i always forget and mix it up) |

You are correct about it being difficult because stress but there is a universal way scholars go from Cyrillic letters to Latin letters...at least that's what one my professors told me.
