Hooray for used book stores!

I finally hit up the used book store downtown, that I've been meaning to go to for years.
Scored myself Kafka's 'The Trial', and a book called 'The Club Dumas', by Arturo Perez-Reverte.
Funny about Club Dumas...I was actually looking for another book, called 'The Devil in Love', by Jacques Cazotte. And the reason I was looking for it is because one of the characters in CD gives that book to the main character. And the reason I know that is because the movie 'The Ninth Gate', starring Johnny Depp, is based on Club Dumas.
So yeah I found out about that book by researching The Ninth Gate, and then Club Dumas. Weird how I fell upon this book instead.
Score! |

i absolutely love used book stores.
my favorite one (Downtown Books in Milwaukee) looks like a total hole-in-the-wall tiny shop from the outside, then you go in and realize it stretches way back and up to cover 4 floors, with narrow aisles you have to turn sideways for other people to squeeze through, shelves that look like they've been there since the 1920's, and even a bathroom that was converted into more storage space for books (including a piece of wood over the toilet bowl with books on top of it).
and the prices are insane. last time i went there i walked out with 6 books for about $25. |

Yes! I love that too! I even love the weird old smell, haha.
I'm going to spend more time wandering around downtown checking out historical buildings and stuff too. I was reading an insert in the paper about 'The People Who Built Barrie', and it got me all interested in my city's past. Heheh. |

Interesting nooks and crannies, and surprise finds. It's the whole experience, really.
I use the library a lot too. :) |

the closest library we have (other than the campus library) is in the ghetto. it's unsafe to go to the library at night. i often put my library card in my sock in case they try to mug me and steal it :( |
