nothing to laugh at there; Markus is GREAT

...at making one sleep.

Seriously, even when I was into trance, I thought he was one of the worst of the big names. He just isn't exciting. He has little to no stage presence (as do lots of DJs that I like, not that it's my concern, but seems to be with a lot of people in the EDM scene, as seen by the laptop DJ arguments), plus plays fairly boring music compared to the likes of Armin or PvD. I saw him a few times back in 2004-2005 and he never once impressed me. Maybe he's gotten better, but I doubt it considering he was already popular then and why change if it's working for you?

As for the argument with dcctnyprincess, yes, she's opinionated and techno leaning. We argue all the time about music off-board. For instance, she knows we love Sasha, yet can't get it. I think the main thing that she was trying to convey with the Richie-Markus thing is that Richie IS a better DJ. When you look at the technical skill involved with each of them, Richie is constantly working, while Markus can sit back and sign autographs for fans in the booth. That's making the production work for you, rather than you working the productions (Richie usually uses multiple tracks at once, all layered).

Markus has been hit or miss. His last gig at Spirit before it closed was awesome.....he brought it hard that night but I will admit....his set @ Pacha after SVD sucked ass.

^^^he was damn good in September and great in Montreal earlier this year. For me he's great and that's my personal opinion and with that let it be.

....not only that, but how we evaluate a DJ is different. While one person evaluates based on technical skills including looping, layering, etc..., i evaluate a DJ on track selection and the absence of obvious errors.

seriously.....what ever happened to track selection and programming.....I guess if you're not dropping 15 different tracks at once while remixing on the fly....you're not considered a "technical DJ" lol

It's dying as every DJ can get the same tracks via the internet. When everyone's got the same stuff, only technical ability and showmanship separates a pro from some amateur creating a set to be played at a house party.

It's kind of sad. :(
