Are you trying to say you're a douchebag?
DjWoody
I mix all sorts of styles, and I can pretty much rock both crowds. But one thing that annoys me, is how EDM is supposed to be all about the music, yet, look at all of you hating on hip hop. I don't see that in the "Other World." Actually, they appreciate EDM and rarely hate. I think I get respect from them because I can spin both and I can rock either crowd.

If you get close minded, you'll get no where. Specially here in LA. The EDM market is very small. The Top 40 market is huge! And if it wasn't because of my Top 40/Hip Hop gigs, I would not be resident at Vanguard, Queen Mary, and I would've not played at many clubs. You'll be surprised how many "Hip hop" heads actually like EDM. They just like it a little bit different. Just these past few weeks, I was told by 2 of my residencies to stop playing hip hop and to play only EDM. It's a whole new ballgame, EDM and Hip Hop are merging again like they did back in the mid 90's. And it's not just EDM and Hip Hop, it's EDM and a whole lot of other genres.

No, I'm trying to say that I'm a DJ that plays Top 40 and I'M NOT A DOUCHEBAG. Any TA here that knows me can tell you that. And there's a lot of TA's here that know me personally, and respect me.

Then why do you have the douche stare in your avatar?

Now, back on topic.

I agree with the rest. If you don't know this style, don't take the gig. I'm sure you wouldn't want a hip hop DJ hald ass his opening set for Armin. It's the same thing. Don't ruin the clubber's night.

On the other hand, if you're serious about it, I can give you a lot of pointers and give you track names for songs that are hot in LA.

Here we go with the personal attacks. Grow up, I'm moving on. It was nice meeting you.

You should be more like my cousin. He embraces the fact that he is a douchebag. No reason to fight it.

my main gripe is that a dj shuold play what he enjoys playing, whether its hiphop, top40, edm.. i dont think its right to be forced to play something youre not comfortable with just because it gets you gigs

And that I agree. I play both because I like both. I don't like listening to hip hop, but I like playing it. It's a whole different world. But either way, I love EDM. EDM has been my thing ever since 1992. I love it.

Nowhere in the original post does he say he doesn't like hip-hop or top40, so maybe the point of taking gigs just to get gigs and not playing music you like shouldn't be brought up.

Anyways, my 2 cents.

Its pretty easy if your just making quick transitions, but you need to have A LOT of music. For an hour gig playing trance, you might need to play 10 tracks, and I find that I can go through 10 tracks in 20 minutes or less mixing rap and the like.

Saying if you wanted to dj for yourself you would stay in your bedroom is tantamount to admitting the only way you can find work is to cater to the lowest common denominator.

saying that all top40 dj's are douchebags is tantamount to admitting that you are a close minded troll who gets a boner from putting down hip hop/top40 dj's.

I find that you have to know your tracks more when playing hiphop as opposed to EDM, its harder to find the perfect spot to drop the next track in.
