You really are one of the most pathetic creatures I have ever encountered.

I'd pity you if I cared, but it's actually more amusing than anything.

Ron has never voted to raise taxes.

Why I would never vote for him. Taxes pay for infrastructure, that same infrastructure that allowed this country to become so powerfull is now whithering away in shambles because morons like you refuse to pay an extra dime for the collective good.

But thats only one of your many moronic aspects, as this thread has demonstrated...

hey Clovis,
1. what do you think about Paul's idea to eradicate or downsize many of the federal agencies?
1a. Isn't this part of the reason that Paul always votes against raising taxes, as he feels they shouldn't be at their current rate to support these "useless"(his opinion) agencies?

I like reading your political posts. i learn a lot from them :)

I think theres been a push to vilify taxes, federal agencies, bureaucracy, and government in general in the past few years (especially with the Bush administration). It's sad, and it's distancing even more Americans from taking part in politics at a time when this is needed more than ever. I'm not for wasteful government (like this one) but government is supposed to serve the people, and it does actually serve them in most cases, and it is essential in attempting to even out many social and economic inequalities imo. The neo-cons love this, because they think government is pretty much useless as well, beyond maintaining power, and would enjoy more privatization in services the government is traditionally supposed to deliver.

I've not read much about Ron Paul, but I really think while he has some good ideas, the focus, for us, should be defeating Romney & Giuliani, who both seem eager to continue the Bush legacy of making government work for big business, and imo it would be an absolutely terrible, terrible thing if either of them got elected. I may even consider leaving the country if this happened, to show you how strongly I feel about it...

Most of this thread is why I hate talking politics. Same with religion. You never know who you will offend.

To answer a question that wasn't directed at me with a response to the Ron Paul lovefest that is the PDD:

There is no mandate, within the system or among the voters, to implement any of the loony reforms he is talking about. He wants to dismantle wide swaths of the American government (nevermind addressing the services that those institutions currently provide) and recraft them to fit the needs of the 18th Century.

Under Paul there would be no federal reserve - great, our economy would be completely unprotected. There would be no department of education - great, there go student loans (didn't think of those, did you?). There would be no Department of Homeland Security - great, I suppose no inter-agency security network is better than a semi-functional one. There would be no USAID - great, the numerous development projects that are carried out under the auspices of the federal government would disappear and the rest of the world would really have reason to think we don't care. We would no longer be part of the United Nations - great, who needs friends with enemies like these... ermmm wait. The State Department would be vastly downsized - great, because we have too many diplomats as it is.

Yeah, sounds like a winner!

I'm all for reforming the system, but please, give me something that is feasible.

The key to protecting the Constitution is not to dismantle institutions and repeal services that the government supplies for it's worst-off citizens. I agree that the budget is a tremendous problem - that's one in a long list of reasons why I oppose the Bush administration, which has overseen some of the largest budget deficits of the last century (other than those under the Reagan Administration, so longingly remembered by the likes of Romney and Giuliani). It simply isn't prudent to talk about the vast overhauls of government that Paul is seriously considering. Abolishing the IRS, Federal Reserve, Departments of Education, Homeland Security, Commerce, and State, agencies like the National Endowment for Democracy, United States Trade Representative, and USAID, and the various other programs in Paul's crosshairs (not to mention elements of civil society), would leave a tremendous void in the services and institutional functions of American society. Not to mention you're talking about laying off potentially a half million federal employees in the process.

Yes, some of our institutions need to be improved upon. But have you ever stopped to think about what this country would look like if you took them away completely?

Sorry for the rant. I apologize to those with no interest in US politics.

eh, I'll probably vote for Ron Paul, even if it won't make too huge of a difference.
