How can I record songs on ableton 6
View this Thread in Original format
SKYMOVE
Hi,

just finished my first experimentals with ableton life - no I want to record my whole piece - but how ???

there is that red dot on top of the browser but where does it save the song - does it really record the whole piece ???

thanks ...

if you click on the "red dot" otherwise known as the record button, everything you do in session view will be recorded onto arrangement view, i assume you know about these views. if not, read the manual or do some basic tutorials, and yes it can record entire songs or sets for as long as you like into arrangement view.

then to create an audio file, just select the part you want and render it. its all in the manual as well as on various tutorial videos on youtube etc
SKYMOVE
well thanks 4 your repsonse

I tried it and it says in the book that ableton will save these files in a certain folder (samples/recordings/...) -> couldn't find any file there.

I Acctually expectet there an "audio_01" file or something similar as we know from Cu Base - but that was not the case.

Where could I find these options for the recording ??? Maybe the track-lines aren't correctly choosen...

thank you

Sounds like he wants to mix down, not 'record', and Im pretty sure its just an option in the menu somewhere, havnt used Ableton for a while though...
SKYMOVE
Well
I m not sure what you mean with mix down....

But all I want is to find a way to play the whole song through from the beginning up to the end.
I want to do this in this way to put effects right on the right point...

Right now I m still haven't found a way

is this possible somewhere in ableton ???

i think ur talking about arrangement, switch to arrangement view dude,(ganz oben rechts) there u go
SKYMOVE
Well its not my question

Right now I can only save up a whole song. Either wav. mp3 etc

But I do not want to save them - I want to record them from the beginning up to the end.

How is this possible ?

I have no idea what the you're on about.

Do you want to record in? MIDI or audio? Or automation?

Just read the goddamn manual for sake.

Sooo, you want to play the song you have just made in ableton, and then you want to record that entire song to a .wav file??
Well, that exactly what "File->Render to Disk" does, it "records" you entire song and saves it as a .wav file on your hard drive.

If this is not what you wanted to do, I'm sorry, we've done our best but we don't know what you're talking about, you will have to read the manual.

If you bought the software, then I'm amazed that you'd spend that much money and not be bothered to read the manual. Go read the manual.

If you didn't buy the software, then why should someone hold your hand concerning a basic subject that is in the manual? Please, go to Ableton's website and search for the manual. What you are trying to do is a very basic function of Live.
SKYMOVE
Hi,

still thanks for ya answear - I did read the manual - but could not find anything that could solve it.

Wonder how you even could record a whole life set. Right now I m running roxio cd creator to record the whole stuff in the background... ...still could not find a way. But calling the ableton store would be an idea...
