Jason I have no idea how you can compare this to anything that happened in NYC's EDM scene. That night at Icon was nothing more than a bunch of punk ass wanna-bees pulling out pocket knives and keys from what I remember......nobody was seriously hurt and that shooting at Crobar was a woman who was carrying a gun and accidentally shot herself in the leg. I'm sure there were other cases worst than these but as long as I have known there has never been multiple people killed in cold blood in an NYC club. I'm not saying it couldn't happen but there is no reason to compare......this is just horrible. :( |
I know it may have not seemed as serious at Ikon that night. But I was standing right there when it happened. So close i got knocked to the floor almost by the guys fighting and swinging knives. 4 people were stabbed and slashed in the face. I dont know about you but that seems pretty seriouse to me. I was freaked the out as many others were as well. Pretty much ruined the night all together and we left not to much after it all happened. Ive also been in the club when it was EXIT in 99 or 2000 when someone was stabbed and killed as well. Yeah noone died but they were pretty close to it. All this is seriouse no matter how you spin it. Its pretty sad that what this world has come to. These places are supposed to be places to have fun and be with your friends and make new friends. Not watching your back at all times and fearing for your life. Sucks that this is what we have to deal with. |

I was right there when it happened too.....def was serious but not life threatening. It's a damn shame people like this have to ruin it for everybody. I believe those stabbings back in the day triggered the whole deal with clubs turning away Asian people at the door in fear of gang related crime. Instead of beefing up security they just started racially discriminating club-goes which is bull . Not sure if we will ever find out the story behind this shooting but I will tell you one thing.......I will think twice before opening my mouth to some twat that thinks he is the at a club.....you never know.....it's not even worth taking the chance. |

Ive been working in a club in the Uk when someone was shot... along with seeing people stabbled and bottled no more than a couple of feet from me on a couple of ocassions. Had to give evidence and everything before.
Could have happened anywhere- not exclusive to S america by any means. From friends who play there often it is a lovely place to play.
There is a big gang problem in one city where I work related to the drum & bass/ garage scene, and those nights ALWAYS have trouble...but then it only takes one nut job in the crowd to do stuff like this.. hardly exclusive to a particular genre. |

that video was kind of weird. people standing around looking at the shot people, then running around again later on.....i would have hauled as from the beginning.
Where was that?
EDIT: Venezuela, sort of makes sense. |
Do you go out by yourself pretty often? If so, hauling ass would the only reaction. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if a lot of those people "standing around" were trying to find their friends that they came with, either by looking or talking to people who know your friends. The last thing you'd want to hear is that your friend died because he or she crawled off behind a speaker while gutshot and no one found them until it was too late (and you never tried). |

| Like Jason said, this kind of thing can and does happen anywhere. Stop pointing fingers at everyone else and wake up! I don't see why anyone would possibly feel the need to start such a stupid argument right now anyway. |

I hope that person gets caught.
So sad to see something like this go down in a EDM event!
Oh and LOL @ someone asking if they got a refund. wtf man?? That's the only thing you can say after watching this video.
I couldn't watch the whole thing. eesh. |

Not "pointing fingers", simply noting that I've seen more than just "a few" cancellations by DJs playing in South America, and gave reasons as to possibly why... I don't know what it means to "wake up", I mean, we can't mourn for days on a message board for people who we don't know; talking and discussing about it is more healthy... Wondering if they got a refund, imo, was a more stupid thing to say than discussing the South America techno scene and its sociopolitical role in the countries mentioned, between two people who know two different sides of the scene well.... Just my 2 cents... |

You make some good points Marcelo and you're right for the most part.
But it's the same way in NYC or anywhere else in the world for that matter. The shooting at Crobar, the continuous stabbings at the PVD New Years Eve event at Ikon a few years ago; these are just a couple examples.
And these crimes aren't exclusive to music events. Presidents have been assassinated, people have been shot in movie theaters / malls / etc... |
Good points :) I personally remember being @ SPIRIT for Armin Van Buuren back in June two years ago, and was like two feet away from the guy who stabbed a bunch of people... Anyway, I'll stop debating, cos it seems to be offending people... lol |

It really sucks to find out about this. Its on many message boards and sub-forums, etc. Some people are complaining that people should not be posting the video. I for one like to have as much knowledge as I can so I know that if I am ever in a club that this occurs in to get the heck out of there before the real panic ensues. Notice the other body not near the other 3 towards the end. Was it a trampled or shot person. Either way, not good.
My question is this though, even with slack security surely someone should have been able to find an automatic weapon capable of firing that many rounds that fast. Doesnt seem like that would be a small concealable gun. |

I'm not offended if that is what you are implying. I just find it ignorant how you went about defending your stance against Jason's as if you know better then him. I'd think anyone to talk like that would have had to have been there, not to mention you seem to be basing everything off of heresay. |
