Oh, about that reduction in Iraqi violence argument (pg. 3)

| It's my speculation that Al-Sadr pulled his malitia off the streets to let the surge concentrate on sunni insurgents. I'm predicting that when the surge is over, shiite militant activity might prick up again. |

MisterOpus1,
You are the most vulgar individual I have ever encountered. Every sentence of yours has to have the word " , ing, Twit, Troll" come on expand your vocabulary. Leaving this low type of behavior aside...
Come on MisterOpus1, you can claim all you want but you have shown your true colors. Its like they say in spanish " eres un americano arrepentido" in english " you repent in being an american" i hope that i translated that right. I mean Opus, why be in America and promote assisantions of the iraqi people and our soldiers and try to denigrate their advancements in irar. I mean i understand that you are resentful for being an american but Opus why not go to Iran and Syria or PK with your boys... hey youll fit well all they do is promote propaganda which aims to hurt America
I could careless if you know people that fought a war against aliens. Why havent you ever volunteered and follow the humble footsteps of those you know that have fought for the american flag? I forgot is that you are resentful for being an american |

This is the same you got banned for in the Florida forum..
Opus calls you a troll, because you are. |

LatinLover and MisterOpus, will you both add one another to your respective ignore lists?
I haven't had the time to write the pm's I wanted, but this should've become common sense by now.
Seriously, I'm not going to ban LatinLover in this thread because he's attacking MisterOpus: MisterOpus is, after all, adding fuel to the fire. If you know he's not going to say anything about his sources (or lack thereof), just ignore him, poking him won't do any good.
Now, as much as I agree with MisterOpus' view, I can not take such biased decision and ban only LatinLover: do you guys not like him? Ignore him. If I even think of banning LatinLover for his argumenta ad hominem, I'd have to ban MisterOpus as well. I don't think this is necessary.
Should this happen just one more time, I'm banning both LatinLover and whoever happens to be arguing with him (unless it's Neo or Swamper, for technical reasons :p) |

Demonstrate exactly where I have done this. Enough with your bull slander.
Do you have any supporting evidence to counter my arguments made in my original post, or will you continue to try to derail this thread?
| quote: | | I mean i understand that you are resentful for being an american but Opus why not go to Iran and Syria or PK with your boys... |
One tends to think with your blind allegiance to your President and somehow equating disagreeing with his policies is somehow being anti-American that it is you that would fit right in with those countries.
You're not helping yourself, but by all means continue.
In the meantime, do you have any supporting evidence to counter my arguments made in my original post, or will you continue to try to derail this thread?

Bush is not America, Arnold.
Being against his policies that sent our troops to war is not being against America, Arnold.
And do you have any supporting evidence to counter my arguments made in my original post, or will you continue to try to derail this thread?
| quote: | | I could careless if you know people that fought a war against aliens. Why havent you ever volunteered and follow the humble footsteps of those you know that have fought for the american flag? |
Arnold, I don't volunteer for causes I do not support.
Say that line again out loud, just to make sure you understand.
This is beyond pathetic. You refuse to join up yourself, then question someone like me who doesn't support your idiot President's foreign policies why I haven't joined.
This is your logic?
And do you have any supporting evidence to counter my arguments made in my original post, or will you continue to try to derail this thread?
| quote: | | I forgot is that you are resentful for being an american |
Arnold, you've incited enough from me. I told you to enjoy it while you could yesterday. It's gone, so the attention being paid to you is back down to asking you a very simple question that you continually dodge:
Do you have any supporting evidence to counter my arguments made in my original post, or will you continue to try to derail this thread?
Answer the question, Arnold. |

Sorry, Lira. I took his slander and ad hominem attacks long enough. I'll admit I hit my threshold. Because of your post here, I will change my last post and take out any possible ad hominems against our friend.
I will not, however, ignore him at this point, unless you give me no choice. I think in most ways he's done a much better job exposing himself than I ever could. In many respects this is the warning I was hoping to see from you. Rest assured, however, that the ad hominems on my end are done. I have the aching feeling, though, that you will likely see them soon from our friend Arnoldj/LatinLover, considering his shady past here at TA.
Again, apologies on my end. |

Seriously, can you just die? You're sheepishness is nothing like being an American. It's utterly appalling that you question Opus's patriotism. I hate pretty much all of Q's opinions, but at least I understand where he comes from because he rationalizes them. That's the way you should be looking at Opus's posts, you twit.
As for Lira's comment: Why don't you just ban Latinlover? You'd pretty much have to tell all of us to put him on Ignore because he pisses all of us off. If that's the case, what's the point of having him around? He doesn't even try to have a civilized conversation and all that he does is spam pre-spun news stories. How many times does he need to be banned to permanently get rid of him? |

Simply put, it would be wrong to ban someone just because everyone else seems to disagree with him and/or dislike him (or his posts, for that matter). We've had a poll about it actually, remember? Twice. And, like I said, I could consider banning him if the attacks were unilateral, but they aren't.
Not every poster behaves the way we'd like them to: There are offensive deviants and just "impolite" deviants, so to speak. I'm here to ban the offensive ones. As for those who are "impolite", and don't conform to social rules imposed by the community... well, we should learn how to deal with them, rather than just kicking them and waiting for them to come back every trimester or so. |

that may be true, however it should still be a part of the debate and also considered in future policy. most of the stuff available says "surge = less violence" and why that might be true, leaving out such important exceptions to that equation reeks of politics to me. |
I completely agree.
Atributing the decrease in violence to a surge in troops is a nasty precendent to set when there are clearly more factors working on both sides of this conflict then mere numbers of boots (or sandals) involved in the fighting.
The importance of understanding the draw down is not just establishing that it happened but also getting a valid picture of what forces cut the casualties. Adding any kind of political spin to this debate is a dangerous thing to do and any mistakes that are made will be paid for with the lives of soilders in the futre. |

Agreed. Although I would submit that our friend had continued with his ad hominem attacks and outright slanders after the second poll. I had finally chimed in return with a personal attack, admittedly to gain attention to the issue. For better or for worse, the attention was given. In retrospect I probably should have PMed you instead when those moments occurred. I won't ever claim I do things in the most appropriate and/or efficient manner.
This is neither here nor there, however, and like I mentioned previously I fully agree with you giving fair warning to us all. So without further ado, let's get back to the topic at hand.
------------------------------------------
Another possibility as to why the reductions in violence have occurred could very well be the number of displaced Iraqis:
| quote: | The number of Iraqis fleeing their homes has more than quadrupled since the U.S. troop buildup began in February, leaving 2.3 million Iraqis displaced and further dividing the country along sectarian lines, according to a new report from the Iraqi Red Crescent Society.
The figures, which measured the number of internally displaced people at the end of September, present a grim accounting of the humanitarian crisis unfolding as Shiite militias and Sunni insurgent groups drive civilians, usually from the opposite sect, out of their homes, neighborhoods and cities.
More than 83 percent of those displaced were women and children, and most children were younger than 12, the report found. Most lived in Baghdad. Many lack adequate health services, cannot transfer their children to new schools and cannot find jobs.
The number of internally displaced Iraqis at the end of September represented a 16 percent increase since the end of August, and was more than 40 times higher than March 2006, when sectarian fighting accelerated following the bombing of the Golden Mosque in Sammara, a Shiite shrine, according to the report.
"This attack ignited sectarian and ethnic arms conflict throughout Iraq on a scale never seen before. Thousands of Shiites had fled Sunni areas and vice versa," the report said. "In addition to their plight as being displaced, the majority suffer from disease, poverty and malnutrition."
The power struggle in Iraq has also pitted groups of the same sect against each other. On Monday south of Baghdad in Diwaniyah, for example, police forces tied to the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, one of the largest Shiite parties in the country, arrested 11 followers of the powerful Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, one of his spokesmen said.
The spokesman, Abu Zainab al-Karawi, described the detentions as part of an "escalating campaign of arrests" by the local police against the Sadr movement.

Lira,
Its real sad that Opus has opted to behave like the way he is doing. Vulgar language is not necessary is this board to get your message across because after all we are civilized people. I have told multiple times to Opus that I wont and dont have to prove him anything. Because after all Im right ( in my opinion) and he is fatally flawed. He hasnt demonstrated that he deserves the honor to engage in a constructive debate with me. I agree with you Lira the best he can do is ignore me because after all I think he has an obsession with me or something that he keeps on going after me.
Now Opus,
You come out and say that you wont join the Arm forces because you dont agree with the war  Okay the duty of a soldier is to serve his country whenever called upon and surely our troops dont have the luxury in picking which war they prefer to fight  Opus that is a lousy excuse to give to anyone here. Either 1. you are afraid( which im truly starting to question your manhood) or 2. you dont want to go to battle with the people you are rooting for. But please dont come up with the lousy excuse that you dont join the arm forces because you disagree with the war  |
