Weak sauce (not the BBQ). I lived in MN for 21 years and never once did my family own a car with winter tires. Those are for old people and Iowans. :p

but driving in snow with all-season tires is so much fun!

/never had snow tires, and could navigate snow no problem. granted, hills not so much, but oh man. used to work delivery and to pull into the parking lot from the street, if yo'ure coming from campus you have to drive past it then essentially turn right 180 degrees into the parking lot, and when it snowed out i could pull that thing without using the breaks at all :p
god driving in the snow is fun with no traction :)

yeah ive had issues with no snow tires, but as long as you are paying attention, its generally do able. with a car a snow drift will stop you even with blizzaks, if the road is reasonably plowed, you should be able to make the trip with all seasons.

that being said, blizzaks in even the tiest subaru make you feel like a rally champion, just dont ever use the brakes|

Just set up your corners beforehand with big angles, (clutch kick it in the junk at about 50mph or for anything tighter, use the handbrake) wind down the drivers side window while punching your fist yelling "DORIFT-O!" in a bad asian accent.
You'll be right :gsmile:

(edit- crap she's got a FWD car, buy new tires and drive like miss daisy)

This thread should have been posted in TOTA, kinda funny reading the advice from ppl in the southern US.

I've seen way too many yuppies in their RWD beemers and soccer moms in SUVs talking on their cellphone from a ditch with all-seasons. I actually slow down and point and laugh at them. There are other stereotypes I'd point out with all-seasons but I'll refrain.

Overall, the cheapest snow tire will always outperform the best all-season tires at any money.

truth.

i don't care how fast everyone else is going when the weather is ty. i drive like a ing when i feel like i'm not in control of my car. funniest thing i've ever seen was when i was going down this long stretch of country road (2 lanes, straight as an arrow, speed limit is between 45-60mph) during a really bad snowstorm, going 25-30mph. a bunch of cars fly up on my ass and decide to pass me over the dotted yellow line - fair enough, go for it... then 5 miles up the road i see all of them in the ditch.

i almost pulled over just so i could point and laugh at them.

If this is going to be your first season with winters, you will be the one flying by on people's asses and STILL be pointing and laughing when their asses end up in ditches! lol (actually, you wouldn't do that because if you raced people that had all-seasons on, when they lose control, they'd take you out with them :()

My car will be ready with its winter package tires + rims in about 1 hour!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!! :D :D :D Other owners on the car forums I frequent already said what an amazing handling difference their winters are making vs. their summers in this non-snow weather. The temperature makes all the difference!! Rule of thumb: when average daily temps fall below +10 degrees C, it's time to change to winters. ;)
