I actually find the interpretation of research findings are bullocks. A lot of the time non-experts only get their research news from news sources, who totally do not understand science (non-experts).

therefore when you get a non expert that does not understand operationalization, independent and dependent variables, alpha levels, and the like trying to interpret these research studies, they are bound to mess something up. and it is usually in the conclusions they make, they make grandiose conclusions that the research is not about.

Yea it can get overused but to be fair, they are in most cases. The problem is what they are actually experts on. Sometimes they spend 20 years trying to figure out something pointless. I mean sure they are experts but what the for?

This is something that annoys me a bit about science news. Is it hard to contact someone who knows about the stuff being published and ask for assistance?

Reporters often arrive at absurd conclusions simply because they don't know what exactly they're reading.

They do it for money. The media is now an entertainment business, not a source of real factual information and has not been for a while.

I have a feeling they fabricate a lot of stuff on purpose just to get a story.

Some fodder for your rant:

quote:
[Dude] invited 57 wine experts and asked them to give their impressions of what looked like two glasses of red and white wine. The wines were actually the same white wine, one of which had been tinted red with food coloring. But that didn't stop the experts from describing the "red" wine in language typically used to describe red wines. One expert praised its "jamminess," while another enjoyed its "crushed red fruit." Not a single one noticed it was actually a white wine.
