The liquid Tylenol is the only OTC med that makes me feel a lot better. All the other meds make me feel worse.

Airborne is good if you're going to be around alot of people and if YOU'RE NOT sick yet.

Zicam (nasal gel spray) helps you get over your cold alittle faster but I think you just have to let the cold take it's course. As for all those over the counter meds, they just help you feel alittle better but there's really nothing that can make it go away. You may feel and/or think that your cold is gone but many times it's still there and when your system is weak (tired, stressed, etc...) it just comes back again.

Best thing to do to feel better quicker is get lots of rest, drink lots of juice (cranberry & orange) and maybe take something like Theraflu or even Alka-zeltzer cold plus and sweat it out! Just don't let the cold air hit you when you're all sweated out.

Another thing is we sometimes think (like me) that we just have a cold when we really have is a freakin sinus infection and for that you need antibiotics. Otherwise, you're gonna feel fine on a few days and then you're feeling all ty again the next days (like me).

I always still feeling ty again when the weekend arrives... headaches, nasal conjestion, sneazing, sore throat.

airborne is 1000mb of vitamin c (thats why orange juice is suggested cos its high in vitamin c), is high in zinc (same as zicam), and high in echinacea and many other vitamins and herbs. this is the best ive found to boost my immune system to fight it off fast, in just a couple days instead of a week or more! and as dave said, there is no cure for the cold :)

btw the zicam nasal gel has been known to lead to loss of smell..there are quite a few lawsuits against the company

Vitamin C and Echinacea to boost your immune system.

Also I'd take some kind of pseudoephedrine for the runny nose. (its OTC but you may have to sign a sheet to get it since its one of the ingridients used to make speed). I'd recomend Claritin-D

Also NyQuil or Tylonol PM for sleep. (both use the same ingridients I beleive)

I don't take meds when I'm sick. I recover naturally. Drink tea, OJ, and eat a lot of garlic.

my favorite remedy for colds/flu:

2 shots bourbon
2 tablespoons honey
1 lemon, squeezed

mix until the honey dissolves and slam it. Surprisingly this actually does help a lot.

The best herbs to help you stay healthy or feel better fast...

Ginseng

Only 32% of ginseng users got colds after 4 months, compared with 62% taking a placebo, according to a University of Connecticut Health Center study. And at the University of Alberta, Canada, 256 people taking ginseng had 25% fewer colds after 4 months than those taking a placebo.

Rx: Try COLD-fx, which contains Panax quinquefolium (aka American ginseng). Available at drugstores.

Echinacea

Despite continued debate, a new analysis of 14 clinical studies on the herb found that regular use shortens cold symptoms by about a day and a half. The University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy study also found echinacea decreases the chances of catching a cold by 58%.

Rx: Try EchinaGuard, a well-studied supplement, available at health food stores.

Andrographis Paniculata

Using a supplement containing this herb can improve cold symptoms by up to 55%, according to a review of studies by US and Canadian doctors.

Rx: Try Kold Kare, at drugstores and online, as directed.

Well it doesn't just go away that quick!

Tonight before going beddie-bye... make yourself a HOT tea. Yup, lemon, honey and a shot of tequila!
Oh and rub VICKS all over your chest and upper back if you can. Cover up and go to sleep. Make sure you have a change of jammies cuz you'll probably wake up sweating.
