In your opinion, where do you think we all go when time catches up to us? |
Into the ground, where we become same rotting, decaying biomass as every other organic component on this planet. If you think you are any more different from a roadkill on the side of the road or a caddaver on some med school schmoe's slicing table - boy do I have news for you.
You know, I live with a "born again christian, errrm... no, messianic jew, sh!t... I'm really confused? What do I believe in again?" person. And I must say... IT IS ING STAGGERING to see the transformation of once perfectly normal human being into pleasure-devoid bible quoting, thumping, "don't take the lord's name in vein" zombie.
That's what remains of my formerly happy, really awesome, totally rockin' out together, 2 souls living as one... marriage. It's also starting to decompose...
keep putting away into that spiritual savings account that you think exists somewhere over the rainbow... who knows, one day you may cash in on all this righteousness.
me? I have no delusions and it allows me to perform all of the functions a normal, decent, and sometimes sober human being would be expected to perform... heck, managing to do certain things even better than some of the finger-wagging, //insert your holly book here// thumping, nonsense babbling idiots I've spoken to and/or seen in action (or shall I say "INACTION"?) |

Some kill in the name of god. Some don't.
In order to know the numbers, you would need to know if past religious battles were purely because of religion or also because of conquering land and/or other motives. Without religion, would people make more rational decisions or still irrational due to human nature? I'm saying without religion and superstition, when a person is confronted with conflicts, would the person deal with them rationally or still irrational, even without religion (i.e. commandments, eternal damnation,...etc). Although, obviously religion can also be used irrationally. Irrational as in the problem can be easily resolved without violence, since sometimes I suppose violence may be a rational decision.
Bottom line: is the violence due to religion or human nature or a bit of both?
By the way, why am I not surprised to see that the first reply is from you. I can always count on you to troll the forums. Thanks for keeping it civil. Although, I prefer views rather than questions. |
How is this trolling? All of my points are valid. And, as you're quite clearly confused, those were my views on your points.
Also, I live in the midwest.
And I think you're confused with your geography as well. Most religious zealots in the US reside in the south. |

I'm not argumentative, just intolerant of stupidity. If you had cared to read into the questions I had originally replied to you with, instead of just accusing me of trolling, you would find my answers to your entire previous post in them.
I guess I'll just put it in black and white. People are overwhelmingly bound by the laws of their governing body. They fear the embarassment of the accusations and the pending incarceration far more than any religious backlash. The number of lives that have been lost due to religious conflicts is far more than the number of lives that haven't been lost due to people biding by the moral bedrock of their respective religion. The number of people that kill in the name of a religious figure is negligible as well.
Violence is inborn. Humans are animals, just like a lion or a wolf. Humans, however, have the inate ability of rational thought.
Of course, these are just my opinions. Which is what you wanted, right?
Honestly, your questions just wander all over the map from post to post, and even within particular posts. Your train of thought is really hard to follow sometimes. Just a heads up. |
