If you don't like Ableton, you could always try Traktor 3.0.

CD-Rs and CD books aren't that expensive. :p

keep your hardware.

i'm a big Ableton proponent (even if i hate people who use it as a simple deck) but the fact of the matter is, it's a computer. it WILL fart on you every now and then. and you will thank the gods when you can just hit play on a CDJ while you figure out what went wrong.

don't give me about having the most stable system. Windows is buggy as hell, AND SO IS MAC. anyone who says you'll never crash because you use Apple has obviously not done much processor intensive . sure, you can get to a point where both platforms, Windows and Mac are quite reliable, but it's still not exactly 100% for a live thing.

doing Live shows without a MIDI controller is a bit of a pain in the neck. and you'll also need a good usb/firewire soundcard if you plan to have decent sound quality.

edit: then again, if you don't have to rely on your own gear for your gigs, ie. there will be CDJs there regardless, then i guess you COULD sell your stuff. just make sure to bring enough CDs for a little set in case anything happens. my friends who do live production always do it.

I sold my setup, moved pure digital using Ableton, i love it, but i never saw putting a record and beat matching as part of DJ'ing (any monkey can do this), if that's what you like, then don't change. If you want to be more creative, and layer lots of different tracks then get Ableton.

That's what I want to do. I want to make more interesting mixes and I don't think I'm good enough with analog decks. Ableton would suit my needs. And another thing is I WILL BE USING THIS FOR SCHOOL :p

Major factor there. I can't afford a laptop at this point without selling my decks, and I need to get a laptop quickly. I can also mix and produce from the laptop, so bueno!

Sell something else like your mixer, speakers whatever. Try to learn Ableton or any kind of mixing/producing program first. How soon do you need this laptop for school? Like next semester? If so, then yes..sell it but you MIGHT regret it later on. If you do...look into the CDJ 400s next year...

i'm not a big enough fan of using a midi controller or ableton to ever make the switch. it IS a huge hassle burning all of your tracks to CD, and skippage is never a good thing.. do what you gotta do i suppose.
