But anyway, it's a moot point, because he doesn't have any considerable support outside of internet forums. |
Aww come on, the internet is serious business full of serious people! :haha: |

Oh, they may be serious, but when all is said and done, there are like twenty of them and two million sorority girls who get their political news from People magazine.
And yet sometimes, it seems like both demographics are just as well-informed. :o |

So should I just start linking all of my threads across TA to the COR to draw more attention to them?
If people want to look in the polls forum they will. |
Well, you see, it's not a simple linking. This is to start a COR discussion on voting and the election. Again, you don't have to click. If it's relevant, I'm postin.. |

I seriously wonder who are the people who gave him $5 million during the 3rd quarter, and $4 million on that crazy fund raising day he had. Either he has more support than we give him credit for, or the 20-30 age base that he has has some cash to hand it or somethin... |

His fundraising is driven by substantial-sized donations, which conflates the actual number of donations he receives. In other words, in 2004 a lot was made about the success of Howard Dean in fundraising. And it was well-deserved -- the average donation in most of his drives was less than $20. The average donation that Paul is pulling in is over $100. So you can see by doing the math that in order to pull in the same amount of money as other candidates (Obama's per capita donation is not much larger than Dean's was), Paul is actually only attracting 1/5 of the donors. So even though his money is starting to come in, it doesn't actually reflect an increase of support among voters.
If anything, it makes a compelling argument that only rich people support Ron Paul, whereas average Americans support Obama. |

you know what?
in australia, our political parties are funded by tax revenue, you get a proportion of the revenue based upon how many seats you win. of course parties can receive donations, but i find the concept of leaders having to raise money just to run for nomination to be the most insidious face of (economic) democracy.
our elections are much lower key, i think that leaves much more room for issues instead of advertising.
i dont like the fact youre not forced to vote either.
actually, when i think about it, i find the US' departure from the westminster system of government to have created a really flawed democratic structure. |
