in australia, our political parties are funded by tax revenue, you get a proportion of the revenue based upon how many seats you win. of course parties can receive donations, but i find the concept of leaders having to raise money just to run for nomination to be the most insidious face of (economic) democracy.

Tax funding may not be such a bad idea actually. It always makes me ill to know that money will always win. Forced voting... eh. |

| i have never voted in my life. i cant vote here and guatemala does not have voting system for out of the country people.... and the 500 dollar ticket is expensive to pay just to go vote :( |

I strongly disagree. If you're not much into politics and don't follow the races or commercials, or rallies then why go and vote? You don't know what you're voting for, you wont vote for what's necessarily more important, and you could end up being the vote that s the good party over. Now, "good party" is different to everyone but if you don't know anything about politics, or not enough, then why make it a law to vote? |

While i agree all americans should vote, i dont feel the government should have the right to force people to vote. Instead maybe there could be a small tax incentive given to voters to increase turnout. |

| Hmm, For some I suppose. Spending countless hours reading, watching and talking about something that puts me to sleep rather than teaches me who is more fit to be the party for the next few years, isn't worth a little 2% tax incentive. |
