yeah, every couple months someone declares one of the two technologies a winner, but they're still leap-frogging each other.

Was at Costco yesterday and they have a Sony Blu-Ray DVD player for $369.

I have both but I am a bit of a nut when it comes to this stuff. I just want to be able to watch as much in HD as possible.

Ain't that the truth lol.

Oh and Walmart and Best Buy recently had the HD-A2 HD-DVD players for $99. Thats pretty much a no brainer no matter how blu your balls are.

I have blu-ray with my PS3, best looking video I have for it is Galapagos documentary by BBC. They do the best documentaries and really take care with their cinematography and picture quality.

Based on industry research, the consumer acceptance of HD-DVD and Bluray is higher versus the time when people initially started using DVD versus CD/VHS as acceptable.

If I remember correctly, Bluray though is more expensive and contains more memory and usually includes games etc so that can become the difference who gain more trial at the onset. Bluray though has the bigger film outfits supporting them it seems.

I'm waiting for the Bluray / HD-DVDhybrid before buying.

Cheers!

Blu-Ray wins

RIP HD-DVD. Thankfully I only have a few HD-DVDs. Been buying mostly Blu-Ray. Should be greatful to HD-DVD though as without it, Blu-Ray would be MPEG2 only with no advanced audio codecs.

yea, looks like Blu Ray is the winner. Was at Costco today. Blu Ray was indeed $369 and the HD DVD Player was $179.

Was interesting news to receive today at work...

Looking back at it all now, I'd have to say that Sony def sealed the deal by sticking that BD drive in the PS3. HD was kinda lingering in there with Universal and Paramount as HD only studios. Then when we (Warner Bros) announced BD only that Friday before CES, we pretty much put the nails in the coffin IMHO.

No harm no foul. Each camp has had a victory here and there.

I don't think Hi-Def packaged media is going to last as long in the marketplace as DVD did (11 years and counting). I think digital download will obv start to take off here faster than we ever imagined.

I would expect market pricing on the BluRay gear to go up unfortunately now that HD media will be exclusively published on it. And they were already frickin expensive as hell. **sigh**
