Actually, my parents are well trained. If I say "I met him/her on TA", they know exactly what I'm talking about.

If I say it to anyone in College/University, they all seem to think 'Teaching Assistant' before anything else - and that ofter requires a great deal of clarification :p

I'm embarassed whenever I have to tell people I know any of you. :o

:p

It took a while, but all my non-TA friends know about TA now ;)

I bet you didn't get invited to the Grade 7 house parties. I sure did. I made out with a girl at one too. I was 12. I think I had a boner

Jenny, it's great you can be brutally honest with everybody, but not everyone is under the same circumstances as you. You said you work in nursing? How many times have you told your coworkers, or better yet your higher-ups, about your drug escapades? What if they asked? Would you say, "hahaha, well the darndest thing, this one time I got so ed on drugs that I thought I was going to OD in a sketchy Asian's apartment"?

see, dotn get that. why would your parents freak out. is it somehow wrong to make friends over the net as your first point of initial contact? i jsut dont get the issue here...

Jem, you have to understand that we don't have the same parents. I don't really want to get into the personal details of my family on here, but I already mentioned how they feel and that's all you need to know. :)

Vicky said the same thing to me when she asked how so and so was. I was like, "from TA"... and and she paused for a second, then said "oh. i keep thinking you mean teaching assistant when you say 'TA'"

lol.

so it wasn't a serious question...just a funny 'when you think about it' lots of friendships are a product of this website.

I have no probs with telling folks that I met someone through the internet. It's so common these days. Lots of stories of people hooking up, getting married, whatever. The internet is a good communication tool and it connects people, be it for better or worse.

A lot of my clubbing friends back in Syd I met through TA and it's great because they all share similar tastes in music, are outgoing and know how to have fun, and there was never any judging or anything. The TA's I met in Europe in '04 were equally fun and great to hang around.

As long as your friends aren't psycho and/or pedophiles then I don't see what the problem is.

I still enjoying meeting people through more conventional means, but I don't view any method as necessarily better or worse.
